I’ve seen enough research that says your PC uses, at most, 8-12 gigs of RAM when rendering. Adding RAM won’t do anything, and in some cases actually slows down renders! Go figure that one out!
Greg Janza gave you excellent advice, although I’ve also read that the GPU doesn’t come into play when rendering, but I could be, and probably am, wrong. A more powerful CPU might help but we could be talking a few seconds considering what you already have.

I don’t have much use for that but I just now tried it and it worked fine, clip from Premiere Pro showed up in the AE composition. Sounds like another one of those bugs that only affects one or two people. Are you sure your PPro and AE versions match? Both are the latest? If one or the other is a previous version that will cause a problem every time.

Welcome to MY world!!! ???? Or, what used to be my world. J/K Jon. You were always one of the more sympathetic ears to my woes. I have to wonder what you all had before the switch. If better, then why on earth would your workstations be replaced with weaker ones? Oh, and just for the record, my previous PC, which was even weaker than what they just gave you, played clips fairly easily, even in 2015.4. So those built in graphics cards must be really weak.

I did, and I checked “Log to file”. Which one of those numbers do I go by? All of them? GPU Load? Not that it matters, I just checked the price on the GTX 970 and, while reasonable, I can’t justify the expense. Probably down the road as the laws of relativity catch up to my PC’s current performance I might upgrade. Thanks for the tips, though.

Thanks, Greg, but I just forked out a grand for the PC and another $1,800 for the GH5 so I’ll have to be happy with choppy for now. BTW, it only plays choppy once I add a plugin in like Cosmo or FilmConvert Pro (which I’m not crazy about how it looks anyway). It plays smooth while I’m tweaking Lumetri.
Plus it doesn’t take long to make proxies anyway. You probably don’t know me but, unlike you, I don’t have 12 hours of video that needs to be edited down to 45 minutes for a client who’s breathing down my neck. I just make dumb little movies for my own enjoyment. But, again, I appreciate the response.
I did download that utility and tested PPro but I have no idea what the numbers mean.

Absolutely no problem here playing back 4K files, 8 bit, but PPro does choke on me with 10 bit. Not bad enough that I can’t see what I’m doing, just annoying. I solved it by going the proxy route.

Not the same problem as yours but this morning for no reason my audio hardware settings were no longer available and it was set to ASIO. I had to reset it to MME. I wonder what abode is up to, hmmmm…..burp….

Hey Chris. I know eventually MSFT will send out an update that will fix the audio issue but the sound is much better through a soundbar anyway. I just hope their next update doesn’t limit video out to 360p 😉
