I just had this same problem – sounds would drop out at a specific point, I would delete and re-drag the audio file into the timeline, it might seem ok, or it would just drop out at a different point. Attempting to start the playhead anywhere but the beginning would cause a random part of the file to play, not the part the playhead was actually on.

It was an .aiff file and when I brought in an .mp3 version instead, there were no more problems.
