This makes sense. I guess I always assumed that grades were attached to just reel and timecode, and not the master session. I think what I’ll need to do is remove the R3d media from the media pool (taking it out of the master session) – then remove the proxy footage, THEN add back the r3d media.

I guess the only alternative is if there is a way to have different source clips share the same remote grade, or if there’s a way to have clips in the media pool but not in the master session. Don’t know if either of those is possible. I do then wish there was a way to make the “real time proxy” feature use a different source altogether, not just a lo res version of the same clip. The issue I have is more an issue of debayering in real time than grading in real time.

Okay, I reinstalled the driver, and rebooted and waited… sure enough about 7 minutes later, it booted, and the cards worked, but the 3 and four finger gestures don’t. So across two installs we’ve got the same result. Hopefully sony will update the driver soon. I’ve passed on all this info to sony… we’ll see what they come up with.

Interesting result. I let mine try to boot for at least 5 minutes… it never did, just hung on the blue screen pre login. I’ll try it again and wait a really long time and see what happens…

I wonder what could be causing it to stop the track pad from working properly? And does it take a long time to boot every time, or just that first restart after installing the driver?

Thanks for the link… I didn’t even know there was a log and transfer plug in… I’ve been tired of that xdcam transfer program for a year… now I can use log and transfer just like i did in my HVX days…. nice! (well except for the fact that it’s over usb 2 right now… card driver still not working… even tried it after a fresh reinstall of leopard… there’s definitely something different about the OS on these new notebooks…)

I emailed sony about the issue, and surprisingly I heard back in a few hours! They asked more about the issue and I sent them my logs and system profile setup… hopefully they’ll find what’s causing the problem… we’ll see… I’ll post back when I hear from them.

I guess this is what I get for being an early adopter… 🙂

Finally, getting back to you all on this. I mis communicated earlier. I meant use the DSR-11 to pass through to firewire to capture in DV. I was able to do this just fine. (other than the old tape footage looking terrible because it was world judo championship shots from 1984. 🙂

Thanks for your help. If I have this need again, I’ll be sure to get a good frame sync to use with the LH. I did try capturing HD via HD-SDI and component, and they worked great, so I think you’re right on the composite feed from that tape being crap.

That makes total sense. Now that I’m thinking about it, the VCR menu works fine because it’s a nice solid signal, and the older tape footage being rough, I could see how sync would be an issue. I have a DSR11 I can pass it through, so I can always use that. (and DV footage here will be no worse than ProRes or Uncompressed, I agree).

Good to know for the future… I don’t have too many of these old tapes (I’m now suddenly finding it odd that I’m calling VHS tapes old… like it’s an old reel of my parent’s generation) come across my desk, so pulling out the old (again finding this weirder since I went to tapeless workflow that DV tapes are old) DV deck once in a while is no biggie.
