Since the area is confined to a fairly simple shape you can just mask or garbage matte out the other area where the glitch is happening and focus your key on the screen. Its probably good practice because the FCP chroma keyer isn’t great

Its all about how much your going to lose through the editing, coloring, exporting, compressing steps. I’m still using FCP 6 so I only have ProRes 422 and HQ so that makes it easy, but just play around with it. It will play a lot nicer with FCP when you’re editing

For at least your second question just hold command while selecting whatever items you want to delete, you may have to turn off linked selection. Select everything you want and delete

Try and bring the video into compressor, I haven’t used X so there may be a YouTube preset. Just remember that Vimeo/YouTube recompresses your video when you upload it so you want supreme quality when you give it to them. When I do 1080i I usually use h.264 with a data rate between 8000-10,000. You will want to de-interlace it since it is destined for the web. Experimentation will set you free and you might just learn a little something about compressor while your at it!

How long is the clip you are attempting to apply the filter to. Try and export the clip you want from the time line as a self-contained movie then re import it and try again. The intermediate codec should be fine, but you can also try ProRes

December 7, 2011 at 2:49 pm in reply to: New iMac, Jerky Playback…the Bigger the File..The WorseI’ve got the 27″ iMac with FCP6, 4GB of RAM, and use only the internal drive for the small amount of editing I do and it works swimmingly with whatever I’ve thrown at it. I do transcode all my footage to ProRes as has already been suggested. So I would say there is some third party causing your playback issue.

Just find what timing works right for you and cross dissolve between the pictures that is the classic “ken burns” effect. I’m sure theres a load of tutorials on you tube for it
