    Thanks Michael,

I had not seen that post. The workflow we came up with involved using the transfer tool to first export the clips off of the disc to local storage, then AMA link, and then transcode to SD 10m as we are grouping 3 cameras.
The match back was to then use relink command, highlighting all of the AMA clips gathered in a single bin, and selecting relink sequence to selected clips check box. It worked, but the workflow suggested in the video seems a bit more direct, and allows for naming of discs, which I was unable to figure out.
All of my discs are coming in as “untitled” which scares me a bit as I will have hundreds on this series.

Also, when I was doing tests, AMA directly to the disc was not working. I have tried in both MC 5.03 and 5.5, which forced me to copy the clips first, which is talking a lot of time.

Am I missing something regarding open ing the disc directly using AMA?

    Again,

    Many thanks for your insight,

    Doug

I don’t have a solution for you, but I have been working at finding an off-line / on- line workflow and it seems you have had some success. I can upgrade avid version if that helps, but currently am running 5.03 Mac.
We are using xd cam discs and importing the proxie files directly from the disc and then trying to relink or batch capture the full res clip with no success.
When I used the transfer tool to save proxies they took forever to import.
It seems the transfer tool is more usefull in FCP
Can anyone point me to a solid avid workflow?
Is there third party software tailered to an avid workflow.
I appreciate any suggestions as I have been looking around for workflow help with little success
    Many thanks

  • Its funny that you had such bad luck with the Burly boxes. I have 2 5 bays with 1 TB seagates, and a cal dig host card (on a Mac dual 2GH.
(cal dig card is great but discontinued for PCI-x). Very fast, not a single problem untill my raid 0 went down, I knew that was a bad idea. I will say that the one drive in the raid failed at the exact moment the overtemp alarm went off, and it was set to a low 104 degrees, so it wasnt the heat.

Any way, the burly boxes are very big, and the fans are very loud, so I bought 2 new firmtek 5 bays and a firmtek host, and some 1.5 seagates. So 7.5 TB’s of storage for about 1200.00. I will use this for my home system and BU (better late than never- lesson learned). The firmteks are small and very quiet, but I have been wresling with them for days. I am now considering buying 2 more Burly enclosures although I would really like to keep the Firmteks.

I will say that you should definately heed the good advice I have seen on this forum regarding raid 0. Eventually, the raid will go down, Just be sure to have a dupe set of media when you do. With that secuity you can run faster than raid 5, at significantly less cost, even including the price of extra drives.
