  • Yeah – all fixed. Finally was able to load all the P2 cards in. I found a terminal command on the Apple website which unlocked my locked disks and took off whatever was keeping me from transferring the material. It was weird – something probably caused when I did the update.

I have the Kata and like it a lot. Sometimes the camera does get a bit hot, but I just unzip the glove a bit at the top (near the vent) and it’s fine.

  • Yeah – did all that – lock doesn’t change anything. I’m just going to back-up my Main Drive, do an erase and install and see if that fixes it.
    Thanks.

July 16, 2008 at 12:44 am in reply to: Permissions Problem P2 to Mac – MobileMe culprit?

I did those steps and it turned into a disaster. After rebooting the internal drives are locked and I can’t open them. When I go to ‘get info” the permissions are all at “custom” and there seems to be no way to highlight any of the options like “read/write”, “read only”, etc… any idea of how to unlock a locked drive when you can’t access it through this method? Thanks for the help even though it turned out bad – there seems to be some weird stuff that happened after that 10.5.4 update, mobileme & QT update… If you have any ideas let me know.

  • Yes – did all of that. I feel the issue lies in the read/write permission on my hard drives yet they all have the “read/write” OK. Other thing could be the new version of QT or something about the Apple Update which has made it impossible to copy over the files? I have tried all the ways of copying them – using the P2CMS application and then also just dragging and dropping. Same problem both ways.

  • Thanks. I’ve performed all the usual things like “repair permissions” but it doesn’t help. There just seems to be a problem with the computer allowing certain MXF files to be copied over.

I’ve posted already in another topic about this, but I am having big problems importing P2 since I did the iPhone 2.0 update with the MobileMe mac service package, etc.. Can’t copy P2 files because of a disk permission issue that has come up since then. I have the most recent QT (7.5) and I feel this whole update is at the core of my problems.

Yes, the tabs are in “write protect” mode. I always do this after taking them from the camera, but it doesn’t make any difference as the files won’t transfer with the tab switched on as well. I’ve played back the files on the camera and they play out fine. I just can’t get them off the P2 and into the MacPro. This past weekend I did the Apple “software update” and that seems to be the thing that has changed everything. I re-installed the P2 drivers (as per the Panasonic tech) but no effect. Any ideas how to get the files off P2? I need to shoot again and I’m stuck as the cards are pretty full.

I’m having a similar problem. Can’t get my mac to take the P2 card info. Never been a problem before. By any chance have you updated your mac with the new MobileMe stuff? I was having no problems before I added that (as it creates a new MobileMe iDisk in the “Cloud”) Maybe this has something to do with it?

  • Jesse,
One question. I’ve looked through the P2 backups I’ve made to the LTO3-HH using Retrospect and you are right – a couple of the empty folders were not copied over. Everything made it expect the “Proxy” and the “Voice” folders which were both empty on the original files. I did another test and restored a back-up of archived P2 material from the LTO tape to my Xserve Raid. I then opened Final Cut did a Log and Transfer and everything was imported fine into a project. If the “Voice” and “Proxy” folders are empty in the P2 contents folder do you really need them? Also I looked into the BRU application, but it doesn’t back up to XServe Raid and only backs up 160-300G? My LTO tapes hold 400G of material. The new version of Retrospect seems to work great, but you are right about it not copying empty folders. Let me know your thoughts . Thanks.
    Best,
    Doug Nichol
