Should have tried this first (and I know better). This worked every way I tried it – new Lib/Event/Project, new Event/Project in the original library, and even just a new Project in the original Event.

Select All, Copy, Paste into new project. All good.

This method ‘works’, but can be problematic for a couple of reasons:

First, it doesn’t resolve spanned clips. That 15 minute interview, depending on camera/card/format, may span several files on the card. When you import from the card normally, or use EditReady or ClipWrap or similar, the long segments come in as one file instead of 2 or more. When they’re dragged & dropped directly, you may end up with a missing frame or audible click at the seams.

Second, you likely aren’t getting all of the metadata into FCPX that’s stored in the folder structure of the card.

I used to use ClipWrap or 5DtoRGB to convert to ProRes prior to import (that way I could rename the files in the Finder first), but because the vast majority of my projects are short-form (usually under 2 min), I now create Camera Archives and just import what I need. The libraries live on the drives with their related jobs, so having a subset of AVCHD clips in the library isn’t really an issue. For me. :^)

I’ve seen this on just one of my projects, which was initially done by another editor in FCP7. We needed most of the timeline integrated into a new piece so I decided to bring it over to FCPX.

I opened the old project, exported XML, translated with SendToX, and imported. It’s a 23.98 timeline and many of the clips (including stills) have this sub-frame issue. Because of the tight turnaround, I didn’t have time to troubleshoot. The issue manifests itself seemingly randomly with about 30% of edits. Ended up simply overlapping with connected clips to cover the half/quarter/eighth/sixteenth frames.

I was able to fix a couple of instances just now by selecting a problem clip and modifying the timing – selected 100% speed, then Automatic Speed (this locked it into correct full frame timing). When I tried it on another clip from the same shoot and camera, the Automatic Speed setting changed the clip speed to 250%! It’s a talking head on green screen, shot at 23.98.

I’ve only experienced the problem on this particular project, and have a little time to poke at it, so will see if there are more clues.

I do this all the time, and have never seen what you’re describing. Always works properly.

Could your keyboard shortcut be swapped with something else? Oh, wait – hang on…

So you’re in the timeline (project), playhead parked where you want to freeze the current frame, hit Opt+F, and Bang! First two seconds of your timeline are appended at the playhead. Is that correct?

I’ve never had this happen – when I choose to export a project with the same name in the same location, it always overwrites. The only case I can think of is if you choose a different output format, in which case the extension may be different.

Sure, but it’s still good to know that if I’ve got a TB1/2 system (and don’t want to upgrade just yet), I can still future-proof a bit by purchasing TB3 storage, as needed, in the meantime.

FWIW, I’m using a nMP as my primary, have a 2012 MBP for travel, and a late 2013 27″ iMac at home. Looking forward to upgrading the home machine when the ‘Pro’ models are released…

There is a known issue with Color Finale and the latest Sierra update on certain MacBooks… have you recently updated? Maybe Colorista has the same problem. Denver is working on a solution, but advised against 10.12.4 until they know what’s happening.
