Compressor is anticipating that one of my files (8Gigs) will be at least 30Gigs once converted to ProRes. Should I just use one of Compressors presets for converting to DV NTSC?

I just completed your first suggested set of instructions. (from your first post) It came out great! Except it has the look of a very high frame rate. Suggestions?

Hello. Yes replacing the files with DV makes the most sense instead of trying to mess around with compression settings. & more yes yes that is what i am doing (films hd, captured, etc). And yes normally I do export from FCP into Compressor but I was trying the whole “export a .mov and drop it into Compressor” to save some time. However, quality is what I’m going for so I will go back to exporting straight into Compressor.

However, one question. In Compressor, for GOP settings, I can’t change any of the GOP settings. All of the settings are grayed out and can not be selected or clicked. Hmm.

I am hesitant to update Rafael because my Final Cut was installed by a professor and I did not register it because I don’t know if the serial number is already registered to him. Which is why I was wondering if purchasing a license for Final Cut 7 and thus changing my serial to that of which I would officially own enable me to update from 6 to 7.

I found a retail license on Ebay for Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut Studio 3. If I apply this to my final cut, will it enable me to update my Final Cut 6.0.1 to 7?

Yeah I understand. Being a student it’s hard to afford. Although I was planing on saving up for Final Cut X but decided not to until I discovered its similarities to iMovie. Is it still possible to purchase older versions?

Is there any other way of updating to 6.2? My final cut was installed with discs that a school teacher friend of mine owned. So I have never registered it or anything, and my friend told me not to update it using the software updates.
