  • Thanks, as someone who doesn’t really use Invigorator for video, I might bring a fresh perspective. And I wish that more graphics were done in After Effects, it gives a different look from Photoshop.

A couple of things I noticed. It’s a lot easier to set up the shadows using the back wall as a shadow catcher. Also, it got a lot easier once I realized that you can manually type in a shadow softness higher than 20, which is the highest you can drag with the “handle”.

    Thanks again!

  • Ah, thanks a bunch. I hadn’t noticed the Shadow Casting panel when a light is selected. That’s familiar from the last version.

    Thanks again!

Sorry to post again Edward (Why can’t I edit my post to add to it?) but after following your advice about the caps lock key, I found that it was Transparent Shadows causing the render to hang, not Ambient Occlusion…

    Edward,

Sorry it took so long to respond. I went ahead and recreated the project (turning off Ambient Occlusion before saving it). I find that the second time you go through something, it improves your understanding of it. Then I got caught up in work for our paying clients, and…

I still have the file that won’t open. If it will help in your development, please let me know how to get it to you, and I’ll send it along.

    Thanks for your reply.

One more thing, I noticed before that Ambient Occlusion was really slowing up renders…

    Edward,

The lathe idea sounds like a winner. I guess that’s my next chapter in learning Invigorator…

    Thanks for the excellent advice.

    Edward,

Thanks for the help! Here’s a link to a thread that you posted in a couple of years ago:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/41/859719#859719

It’s about doing something similar in ProAnimator. You include settings for “Edge Scale”, which I can’t find in Invigorator (is it called Bevel Scale now?).

I tried the settings you mentioned (obviously without the Edge Scale settings) with no success. If I could get this to work, but rounded instead of pointed, I could maybe put another sobject behind it to act as the sides…

Am I totally off base here? It’s a bit disappointing that you can’t round the front face of an object…

    Thanks again,

    Doug
