September 29, 2011 at 10:47 pm in reply to: ATEM Television Studio: Shipping/releasing soon?Raising this thread from the dead to state that I FINALLY received an e-mail today notifying me that the ATEM Television Studio has shipped. Likely won’t get to me until Monday.
We’ll finally know if it lives up to the hype.

Thank you for the first look, and glad to hear the mp4 looks and works well.
Will you document the method for adding png’s from photoshop to the ATEM TVS in your future in-depth review?
I have a Behringer SRC-2496 (~$165)ready and waiting to get the sound from our analog mixer to the ATEM TVS in the required AES/EBU format. I think sending the audio through the RCA digital out to the BNC connection on the ATEM TVS will work perfectly, but curious to find out for sure. Ready to make an additional investment yet to get audio with that video?

They have a lot of big ideas, just not so strong on the follow-through.
I saw a blog from a couple of days ago saying that it shouldn’t be too much longer now that they have released version 2.5 of the ATEM software about 4 days ago, which includes provision for the H.264 encoding feature of the ATEM Television Studio.
I’ve had my Church’s ATEM Television Studio on pre-order since August 9th, but I’m being patient and will take any news of its release with a grain of salt until it’s on my doorstep.

You’re breaking my heart, but thank you for sharing that information.
I figure that part of the equation was based on the H.264 Pro Recorder, and I’ve seen more than a few posts here concerning issues with that piece of hardware.
Nothing to do but wait.

August 22, 2011 at 2:49 am in reply to: ATEM Television Studio vs ATEM 1 M/E Production SwitcherJonathan, you are close to where I’m at, though I might be a little farther along, and I’m a PC guy. I started from scratch in March, and right now, I’m filming the service with a single camera, waiting for the ATEM Television Studio, which I have on pre-order. My budget is $6,000.00, which I will fall into comfortably with a 3 camera setup.
I chose Panasonic camcorders, the TM900K for the main camera and the SD800K for my second and third cameras. The TM900K will be the only camera that is manned, the other two will be mounted and be used mainly for wide shots (though they can be zoomed with the remote control), the idea being I can cut to them to vary the shot and give the main camera the opportunity to zoom or re-set upon a different subject if necessary.
One thing you should be thinking about is sound. The ATEM’s don’t get their sound via HDMI, and the ATEM Television studio requires an unusual digital sound interface to mate it with the video. Bob led me to the Behringer Ultramatch Pro in a previous thread to accomplish this from our current analog soundboard. The 1/ME, however, will take analog.
Bob can be as cantankerous as he likes, as long as he is providing answers to us neophytes! Personally, I think Bob is witnessing this revolution in the video industry where professional features that used to carry enormous price tags are now in products that are cost-wise within reach of just about anyone, and he can’t believe us noobs are fretting $200 here or $500 there.
When I started doing research on putting this together for my church 8-10 months ago, I came across turnkey solutions in the range of $18,000 to $25,000. My goal was to provide 90% of what those systems could do for 25% of the cost. I’m not done yet, but the ATEM Television Studio should help me reach that goal.
How far away is the overflow room from your command center? If it is close enough, you can go wired, but if you can get a strong wireless signal from your location to the overflow room, you could try using VLC or Microsoft Expressions to deliver a signal to the overflow room, if you are OK with ~20 second delay.

August 16, 2011 at 3:54 am in reply to: ATEM Television Studio Production Switcher..when is it due out?I already have a thread on that.

Best information I can provide from scouring the internet is sometime between now and September 3rd. They already let the July target ship date slip, so I can’t see it slipping any more. Pretty much mirrors the 1 M/E, which was supposed to ship in May and ended up being mid to late June.
You can pre-order now at various sales sites.

I pre-ordered from Markertek, and the info displayed when added to the cart said it was being pre-ordered and the estimated ship date was August 10. That was Tuesday. Well, now when you add it to the cart it just says it will be pre-ordered.
Got my hopes up for nothing.
I’m getting this for recordation of church services, and right now my interim solution is recording everything on a single camera. This is our first foray into video recording, so at least we’re learning our hardware and technique as we wait.
I’ll respond again when I get word from Markertek that it has shipped.

I guess I am just talking to myself, since I’m the only one posting in this thread, but I have reason to believe the ATEM Television Studio will begin shipping tomorrow. I think those September estimated ship dates were in error. I’ll confirm tomorrow.

August 7, 2011 at 3:06 am in reply to: We had trouble connecting the ATEM 1 M/E production switcher multiview HDMI outSounds like they are saying anything that accepts HDMI in should be fine, but HDMI out to DVI in won’t work. That Sony KDL-40EX700 should fit the bill nicely, it has 4 HDMI inputs, so can’t tell you the issue there. Perhaps tinker with the output resolution on the ATEM, or see if there are any input resolution settings on the Sony?
I also just looked at the specs for that Sony KDL-22BX320 TV. It is a 720p television, and the resolution is 1366 X 768. I know the control panel requires minimum 1400 X 900, but I don’t know about multiview, seems like the TV should be able to downconvert whatever signal is sent from the ATEM 1 M/E. Personally, though, I would want a higher resolution to get better detail.
There are plenty of computer monitors out there that have HDMI in. For example, I have an ASUS VW246H 24″ monitor (1920 X 1080) purchased for multiview purpose for when the ATEM Television Studio is released. It has HDMI input, so I assume it will work, though I can’t say definitively until I actually have the ATEM TS in-hand and plug it in. It can be had for ~$200.
