I did try to use their software. It recovered files, but unfortunately was not usable so my footage was lost.

  • Maybe I need to give some more information. I am on a Windows machine and my client uses a Mac. I use Adobe’s Premiere Pro to edit so I have no problem editing straight out of the camera. On this project however, they need me to convert my files to Quicktime before I send it to them. I’m trying to figure out the best codec and compression to keep 1920 x 1080, keep the quality and also keep the file sizes around the same size. There are so many options I’m not sure which to try.

January 10, 2011 at 12:20 pm in reply to: Simple Dissolve Problem that Dips to Black First

I had posted this issue on Adobe’s forum as well and here’s what the problem was and how we fixed it.

I had two opacity keyframes at the beginning of the video as my fade up from black and a cross dissolve at the end to the second clip on the same video layer. The problem was at the first frame of the cross dissolve to the second clip, it actually cut to black, then did the dissolve.

After some tests I tried turning off the Mercury Playback Engine and used software only which fixed the problem, but not the best way of working with my hardware. So, I then took out the opacity keyframes at the beginning and replaced it with a cross dissolve, turned the MPE back on, and the wierd cross dissolve to the second clip went away. Hope this helps someone else if they come across something like this.

    Kevin,

Thanks for the reply. I’m very close to getting it. How do I render it out without having the footage being inside After Effects? Can it be rendered out and brought into Premiere with the Alpha Channel in place?

    Thanks,

    Doug
