Sorry if my posts constituted a hijack. The symptoms you are experiencing are identical to what I’m seeing on similar hardware.

I’m beginning to think Resolve 11 isn’t leveraging my GPU properly. It finds it during launch, but it’s not on the list of selectable cards in settings. Does your card show up there or is it missing as well? FWIW, I’ve verified CUDA and openCL work on my machine, but am beginning to suspect a driver version mis-match that Resolve doesn’t like – page 9 of the Mac Configuration guide alludes to this.

I figured I was using the software wrong or otherwise had incorrect settings; I fully admit I’m about as green as you can get in the world of video editing. However, FCPX and Premiere Pro seem perfectly happy to play Cineform 422 files. Am I to understand Resolve 11 (Lite) is doing so much more in the background that it can’t keep up? I’m just trying to get it to play the video at real-time so editing isn’t a bear – I haven’t tried to add any kind of effects yet.

My understanding is that Resolve 11 has basic Cineform 422 read capability and can do full debayering with a CFHD codec patch from GoPro (Cineform). Or am I better off pulling in the “raw” .mp4 files and converting them to ProRes?

Or, is there a good online resource you could point a newbie to about effectively navigating the alphabet soup of CODECs, intermediate formats and config options? Diving into Resolve probably isn’t the easiest approach one could take to learning this art, but FCPX and PP cc aren’t exactly simple either. Besides, Resolve Lite is FREE.

I have the exact same problem. I’ve “hot rodded” a Mac Pro 3,1 as a way to learn basic video editing. The trial versions of FCPX and Adobe Premier Pro run on it flawlessly. Specs are:

Mac Pro 3,1 – 2008 “Eight Core” – 3.2 GHz dual quad core Xeons
Mavericks 10.9.4
Crucial M500 240 GB SSD + WD Black 2 TB set up as a fusion drive (250 MB/sec or better)
EVGA GTX 660 FTW ACX
16 GB RAM

No matter what I try, I can’t get it to play simple H.234 or CineForm 1080p/30 GoPro video – setting the project to those files’ format, but it’s ridiculously choppy. I posted this same question to the BlackMagic forum, but so far, no responses.

Any ideas?
