Thanks Spencer. I keep on leaving relevant info, sorry about that.

I shot with a Panasonic DVX 100 camera which is 4:3 only as you know.

I’ll try to change the format to 16:9 just to experiment with it, but from it does not sound like I will be able to deliver a quality 16:9 version of my film.

Thanks for your quick response Rafael, I really appreciate it.

It is indeed SD 4X3, and the audio is 5.1 surround sound but I don’t think the latter makes a difference or does it?

I understand that I need to open a new sequence, drop the whole film, keep the same settings but choose anamorphic widescreen; yet, I would love to know if this format change will affect the archival footage or the Super 8 shots?

I have definitely, and unconsciously, underestimated the DVD making process… and yes, you are right, it is Also an important part of production. I am humbled by this lesson, and I now know more.

Oh, and Michael Sacci (he replied to this thread) walked me through the process, and what a difference! I can hear the surround sound now -it was converted as you wrote above, in an .ac3 file for DVD SP- and the video quality -compressed in an .m2v file- is so much better.
And, of course, the navigation was “adjusted” in DVD SP, but you already knew that!

I feel Blessed.

But for the record, this is the process I followed with this film project:
I am an independent filmmaker, who can film, produce, and edit. I do not, however, have any experience with DVD authoring, and that is why -despite a limited self-funded budget- I hired another professional filmmaker, with experience in DVD authoring, among other things…
He set up the DVD Studio Project for my film, and once I ran into trouble, he became unavailable all of a sudden; not to mention and he and the sound editor convinced me that they knew what they were doing with DVD Studio Pro.

Then, I went on the Creative Cow forum dedicated to DVD authoring, and I read several posts to see if I could find answers… lastly, I posted my post to get some answers.

In short, I have done the best I could with the resources that I have, and in the context I am in…

And this latest obstacle is a “gift” in a way, as I am Now aware that I was doing it wrong, and the people getting paid to do it right for my project, were also doing it wrong.

Firstly, I am not familiar with ToonBoom. I had hired a cartoonist while I was shooting in the Rainforest, and he let me down, but did produce a few of the cartoons he was paid for.

These animations were for the most part given to me in QT format as I had asked for, compressed in Sorenson video 3 for the most part, or simply Animation:

with Vid Rate: 29.97 fps (one animation has 30 fps)

with a Frame Size: 720 X 486

Data rate 732.6K/sec (this varies GREATLY between animations)

Pixel Aspect: NTSC -CCIR 601

I will look into what you both propose, later on today, and see if it will lead me to the path of victory.
