[michael Jones] “I’ve heard a lot of talk about a Dell 24″.”

The Dell 24 is good. That or the Apple 23. Either way you’re going to get a broadcast signal from the MXO that is very close to using an expensive broadcast monitor for colour accuracy. I’ve seen the MXO/Apple display combo and and a Sony PVM monitor side by side and it’s tough to see much of a difference.

    Stephen,

I’ve just sent the H.264 version to your home email.

[Stephen May] “Don, noting comes up except the “Q” for Quicktime on that link.”

That’s because you need to have the XDCAM EX codec residing on the computer you’re using to watch the clip with. Or you didn’t wait long enough for the entire clip to download because it’s quite large at around 47 Mbytes.

I’ve taken the liberty of down-converting the clip to H.264 and reduced the frame size from 1920×1080 to 600×338. If you have an email address I can send it to you, but I have to leave soon for a shoot. I can always send it to you tomorrow.

In the meantime, try shooting something with your camera and with OIS turned off. See if that makes your issue go away.

    Stephen,

Did your footage look sort of like this but not as bad?

[Bob Jackson] “Put it on youtube under my alias pitrow66.”

I’ll check it out. Years ago I had an SCCA license and used to race a Camaro at Westwood in the GT1 class. Got really expensive so my partner and I got out before we lost our shirts. Peter Baljet used to race with us and now he’s got a Chevy store in Nanaimo ( I think).

Anyway, getting way off topic here. The EX series cameras are certainly not a run and gun camera like the HDV 1/3rd inch HDV ones are, although that’s how I’ve been using mine lately. There’s much more setup involved but the results speak for themselves. I always shoot progressive because the picture always looks so much better on today’s LCD and plasma TV’s.

[Bob Jackson] “Seems like we must be neighbors, I live just across Georgia Straight on Vancouver Island.”

I noticed that the other day when I checked your profile. The BC government said they’ll be dropping the fuel surcharge soon on the ferry tickets so it won’t be quite so pricey to commute. I had to go to the Sunshine Coast on a gig a couple of weeks ago and was quite surprised at the cost.

Good luck with your car racing coverage. Is Cobble Hill still open?

How about FCP Rescue? It’s a free program that will trash the FCP preference files for you and then restore them from a previous clean backup. Most FCP editors I know use it. You can find it here:

You’re welcome. Good luck with your project.

  • Multiply 1920×1080=2,073,600 square pixels, which rounds off to just under 2.1 megapixels.
