Thank you sir. Your first sentence shot down my theory in search of a quick solution.

Thanks for your response. I was obviously ill prepared in my asking.
Mr. Coopers response on this thread, “The existence of 1G on your network will not negotiate 10G connections down.” kinda shot down my hopes for an easy solution.
We converted the station from a couple SANs with a combined storage of 100 Tb to an Editshare system with a storage capacity of approximately 75 TB. Currently we are at 53% full. Editshare support has been less than confidence inspiring on what appears to us to be a configuration issue. To be fair, it may be outside of their box and therefore responsibility.
The Editshare system is connected directly to the XS728 T via CAT 6A cabling. As for the number of drives, I see 16 active drive bays. Each Editshare box is using two ports on the box as well as the switch.
We have nine Win 10 editing PCs connected directly to the switch, also with CAT 6A cabling. Each PC has an AQtion-107-12A-SBA 10GBase-T NIC.
As mentioned, we also have a couple lower-power users and techs separated out via some general Netgear 1 Gbe switches.
I’ll ask to have a transfer speed test done. But we also see a lot of temporary freeze/lock-up happening while editing.

We have the latest 12.01 update and had not seen any resolution to this. We do use an on-line captioning outfit and do have problems with the 708 CC being truncated or losing characters.
Besides doing a copy paste routine from each 608 screen into the corresponding 708 screen, how is your solution accomplished?

Thanks for the pointer, Rob. As both Bruce and Bill pointed out, I miss-spoke in referring to noise canceling headphones. As in my topic, I was asking about high isolation headphones.
One of our crews is shooting episodes of “Wild Nevada” in the field and has had a couple of occasions to shoot around off-road vehicles. They complained about an inability to hear what was actually being fed into the recorder. The headphones you referenced look to be a reasonable solution.
Having used custom molded in-ear buds in the past, I’m a bit hesitant about going that direction.
Thanks again for the pointer.

Stereo Standards (4 Channels)
Ch 1 Left Stereo
Ch 2 Right Stereo
Ch 3 Mono Mix or DVI
Ch 4 Mono Mix or SAPI did make a sequence template, and have it working 3/4 of the way.
I created a new sequence.
Master was set to multichannel with 4 output channels selected.
I had channels 1 and 2 created as mono tracks.
Inside the project window, I changed the audio configuration for the finished piece, breaking the audio to dual mono.
In the track mixer, I created two additional Mono Submix tracks.
Channel 1 and two were both sent to tracks 3 and 4 Mono Submix tracks.
Channel 3 and 4 were routed to the 4 channel Master track and mixes set.
All 4 tracks showed up as active in Master track
AME was set to output 4 discrete channels
Almost there. Channels 1,2 and 3 all showed up on Premiere’s meters and Master Control’s monitoring hardware, Channel 4, not so much. Extremely low audio to the point of being non-existent.
Anyone see an obvious setting conflict?
Thanks,
Don -
Thanks for the input Peter.
We have hardware monitors in master control to check on the Measured loudness. The editors all have Premiere Pro and Audition with the Loudness Radar available to them. But I cannot speak to the “interested editors” question.
Actually, the whole loudness issue is the second portion of what I have been tasked with evaluating. Followed by an evaluation of the audio chain from the studio through to master control. We’ve seen some inconsistencies there.
I take note of your post. I will make sure the editors have a reasonable understanding of the loudness radar and actually follow the process and use it. We also have Telestream’s VidChecker to assist in evaluating our ability to meet specs.

Belated thanks to Jamie. There might be a more elegant way to accomplish the task, but this is working. And I’ve created a sequence template to pretty much automate everything.
Thanks!

No Sir, we are not sending out the audio to a specialist. I’ve read your advice to others in the past about this, and would advocate doing so. But we do not have the budget for this type of work. Management is already sweating the budget because the National Parks Service changed policy (or enforcement) mid stream and is charging for permits where they have not in the past. Even for non-profits.
So we have to rely on the editors to get an acceptable mix. That’s our world, unfortunately.

Bryson, will the old CatDV Pro 8.1 files migrate to a version 11? I haven’t been able to get a direct answer from Squarebox about upgrading.

Thanks, Gary.
I did indeed update the firmware. I used the control panel. The firmware was referenced by date, and I changed from a 5/14/13 dated file to the recommended 4/24/15 dated file.I assume the AJA control panel process was correct.(?) It was a single button click and reboot.
Thanks,
Don
