Create a Custom Preset on the XL H1 and set the following adjustments:
BLACK LEVEL: STRETCH
CORING: Set all the way to the right…
NOISE REDUCTION 1: ONLY use if your shot is static with no moving objects – will add a trailing ghosting effect to any movement – (Basically leave this setting OFF)
NOISE REDUCTION 2: Set To HIGH
CHROMA: Set to +3 – +5 depending on the color in the frame (get a good color sample)
If you want Cine-Gamma look, then set GAMMA to CIne 1, set KNEE to LOWTurn up the Video Gain Level to +6 (possibly +12) and THEN turn on the above Custom Preset and the noise reductions settings (Coring, Noise Reduction 2) will help minimize Grain…
Good luck.

Hi,
You really should be using at least version 5.1.4 of Final Cut Pro with your XH A1.
Hope this helps,

FYI, the down-converted output signal will always be 60 fps interlaced (29.97), regardless of the frame rate of the original recording.

FYI, there is always the Convergent Design HD-Connect SI

December 7, 2007 at 4:43 am in reply to: Problems capturing from a Canon XL-H1 to FCP 5.1.4Here are some questions I must ask you before we go any further:
1.) Is the TAPE/CARD SWITCH (page 116 of manual) set to TAPE or CARD?
2.) Do you have the XL H1 Power Dial set to VCR/PLAY or EXT. CONT. ?
3.) Under the SIGNAL SETUP menu, do you have “AV->DV” turned ON or OFF? (Should be OFF)
4.) Under the SIGNAL SETUP menu, what do you have the “PLAYBACK STD” set to? (AUTO? HDV? or DV?)
5.) Under the SIGNAL SETUP menu, do you have the “HD DOWN-CONV” function turned OFF?
6.) Is the blue HDV pilot lamp lit next to the FireWire port of the XL H1?
7.) Under the SYSTEM menu, do you have the “DV Control” function turned on or off? (Should be off)Let me know,

Did you shoot 720 or 1080 with the HVX200?
Do you need to stay 23.98 with the edit? You might want to consider re-capturing the XL H1 footage from the SDI out into a KONA card with SDI in and using DVCPRO HD 1080 60i as the capture codec… Then your XL H1 footage frame rate will match your HVX200 footage frame rate… your edit would be 29.97 at this point… just a thought…
– or you might want to consider upgrading to FCP 6 and using the PRO RES 422 codec as your editing sequence codec. It can handle multiple formats in one timeline. You certainly have some options…

I know this might sound like a dumb question,,, but I gotta ask: are both XL2’s set to the same Frame Rate? (60i, 30P or 24P?)

Starting from scratch…
Set up FCP using an Easy Setup of “HDV – 1080P24”
Make sure that Device Control is set to “HDV Firewire Basic NDF”
Capture Preset set to “HDV”.Let me know if
a) you have successfully been able to capture your footage.
-or-
b) if you still need assistance in capturing your 24F footage.Let me know,
