    Don,
Thanks so much for the help. After many more late nights tinkering it seems the problem to be mostly procedural, switching between PP, AE, Speedgrade, then Encore. We were overlooking something that was recompressing our footage (x2). So, the BR players weren’t able to handle the mega compression.
Still trying to find a way to get DoStudio on a win 7 setup (we have Win 8). DoStudio says the Win 8 compatability will arrive summer 2014.

Perhaps the universe gave finally us the “a-ha” moment after we posted the question. Same thing happens at the mechanic when I take my car into the shop, the problem has miraculously disappeared.

    Thank you

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you both very much for the responses.

  • Eric,

Thank you so much for the guidance!

  • Hi Nick,

I love it. It sounds crisp and clean, low noise, very detailed. Much better to my ears than an AT 4053b and the other mid priced suspects. But, everyone’s opinions and tastes vary. I am really just getting started in location sound.

  • Mr. Toline,

I was getting ready to post a similar question regarding the Audix HC and the MKH-50.

While I haven’t tried the Sennheiser, I find that I have to get the Audix in close. It seems to have a wider pattern than some others. Most of my very noobish audio cutting from wide shots to close ups are sometimes jarring in terms of room tone. Would the Sennheiser perhaps be more focused and would this reach help?

I’m struggling with sound perspective but I wonder if this could be minimized a little by the Senny.

    Thanks,
    Dominic

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. I was hoping someone who used 2048 film scans all the way to a commercial mac bluray would chime in with thier experiences/recommendations. I’ll perhaps repost on a more appropriate forum.

    Thanks again
    Dominic
