I am not at expecting Vegas to split an event for me. What I do is:

1)I put 4 events on the timeline
    2) I drag event #3 to the split point between 1 and 2

Result: event #3 (and 4 – they remain together even though I only select #3) overlap event #2 when I have Auto Ripple (CTRL L) on. When I have Auto Ripple off, the same happens, but only event #3 overlaps #2. Event #4 gets not selected when selecting #3). In neither case event #3 is put in between 1 and 2. Is there any other setting that needs to be changed?

I tried this before, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work:

    1) when I select an event and drag it, all following events are moved as well
    2) In addition, when I move it, it just ends on top of the other event

April 16, 2010 at 5:28 am in reply to: Vegas 9.d freezes when opening files

    I used the following solution:

    https://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4558

It actually works, but I am not sure if it is a good “final” solution. After all, the aviplug.dll file is an old one. Any idea if this is safe or whether I can expect problems during further processing (i.e. after rendering,…)?

Glad to hear that for the hobbyist life is not that difficult after all. Thanks!

December 23, 2009 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Render as

To render avi to avi, I start from a DV-avi file (widescreen). Then in Vegas: render as > video for windows (*.avi)> custom > Pal DV widescreen. PAR here is fixed to 1 (cannot be changed). Nevertheless, in the Vegas preview during rendering I get a smaller screen with black boxes all around. I guess it should be possible to just convert avi to avi (if I want to obtain 1 avi file after cut, trim,…)?

When choosing: render as > video for windows (*.avi)> custom > DivX codec I get the same effect, except when I do change the PAR to 1.4568. Also I see a configure button next to the codec. Here I can change the quality, but whichever I choose, file size remains the same. That’s not clear to me either.

Looking at the link you sent, I tried to convert an avi file to Divx with the conversion tool (trial version), but then 16:9 is converted to 4:3 and I don’t see any settings w.r.t. this in the tool. What am I doing wrong?

I guess that is too difficult for me at this stage. Why should the PAR be changed in order to render to DivX? What exactly do you mean by “using the DivX encoder rather than Vegas”?

November 22, 2009 at 10:53 am in reply to: HD Noob: Confused about Deinterlacing

The intention is to deliver HD(home)video to TV through a mediaplayer (or a blu ray player). I use Vegas and Neoscene. Considering the advice not to deinterlace, my question mainly comes down to the following: why do Neoscene and Vegas both offer the option to deinterlace if any HD TV has a deinterlacer built in anyway? Do vegas or Neoscene do a better job, or do they just have the option as such?

As I understand, LCD and Plasma TV’s understand de-interlaced video. Only problem is for computer displays. So, I would suppose it is better to de-interlace 50i video always anyway? On the other hand some people on internet forums give the advice to rather not do it. So, what’s the best procedure if I shoot 50i video?
