The point was that I was trying to avoid activating and deactivating tracks every time I wanted to make an edit using the COMMAND+K shortcut…it kind of defeats the purpose of using a shortcut key. I mostly edit music videos and there will be upwards of 75 tracks that I’ll be cutting between. It becomes time consuming to be constantly clicking tracks on and off.

That being said, I somehow solved my own problem. I had to reinstall Premiere, and when I did, apparently some setting got restored…I can now make shortcut edits by simply selecting the region and clicking COMMAND+K. However, if the region is not highlighted, the shortcut will make an edit to any track that is currently active (including audio).

Hope this helps anybody else who was having the same problem!

BUMP AGAIN…

Sorry– I know that this is technically a solved query and somewhat in bad threadiquette on my part to bump, but I haven’t found anything else on the googles, that as nearly resembles my own problem.

So, I know that the COMMAND + K function adds an edit to any active tracks (similar to the ALT + V function on FCP7). BUT activating and deactivating tracks to make an edit kind of negates the whole shortcut keystroke process…no? Is there any way to add an edit to a specific region without activating or deactivating tracks? Right now I’m just toggling tools (C and V) and I’m about to catch arthritis over here with all the mousing all over the place…not to mention I must be losing like 30 mins of productivity for every 4 mins of video that I edit…
