I put the 30fps footage into a 30fps comp, then put that comp into a 24fps comp. Just like that same problem, it was dropping the wrong frame, but then I was able to slide the footage around within the 30fps comp to get it to drop the correct frames in the 24fps comp. After a little tweaking it worked!

Yea, tried sliding it around, no go.

I thought about setting time remap keys then sliding them around to manually remove the dup frames – that will certainly work, but I’m hoping to find a more automated way.

32bit is float so all the values go 0-1.

And yes – its everything, not just colors. A “levels” effect in a 16bit project has its white point at 32768 by default.

I’d love to see this added to AE. The real problem is in 3D hierarchies. Say a 3d footage layer parented to a null parented to another null – all with keyframes on it. I’d like to be able to basically “flatten” that hierarchy by baking in the footage layers position to keyframes directly on it – a case where a tracker really wouldn’t work (esp. since the tracker in AE is less than ideal.)

Right – but thats what I mean. A true real 16 bit number goes up to 65536, not 32768. So why is AE not using the full range of 16 bit values?

    Thanks for the info!

So – without adding any ‘non standard’ QT codecs, what type of image sequence would you recommend? TIFF?

Thanks Jeremy – we are in Orlando, FL. Shipping the tape is fine when we’re not in a hurry, but you know how that goes, sometimes we have to drive it somewhere, have it transfered, and get it right back same day. But any info you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your post.

We use PC’s – but have a mac where we make our selects from the dvcprohd qt files and render it out uncompressed (codec: none) – since we usually only work on a few seconds of footage at a time the file sizes are managable.
