Sorry, one more question for you, Brian. What if I wanted to mask out a group of objects? For example, I have text layer which is inside an Extrude NURBS which is attached to a Fracture with a Plain Effector. I want to add a rectangle spline mask and reveal this text. Do I group the text with the Extrube Nurbs and Fracture together and then place that group in a Spline Mask with the Rectangle? This is what I thought you would do, but when I do this, the rectangle has no effect. I’ve double checked my mode and none seem to do anything.

Figured it out. That did the trick! Thanks so much, Brian!

By the way, how does the Extrude NURBS know not to extrude the Rectangle instead of the Path when I deselect Hierarchical? I’m a little confused about that.

    Brian,

Thanks for the response. I’ve been racking my brain over this issue for a couple of days now.

My spline mask mode is ‘B subtract A’ which I’m guessing means I’m subtracting the rectangle from my Path layer. I tried switching to ‘A intersect B’and nothing seems to change.

    Jon,

I was getting pixel and screen aspect ratio confused and understand now what you’re saying. My producer is visioning the video we’re making to cover the entire screen at the event; therefore, we were needing to make our video in the 3:1 screen aspect ratio. The event production team is now telling us to keep it 16:9. I appreciate all of the feedback everyone has given on this board and thanks again for clearing up my confusion.

One more question for you, Jon. So is the only reason to use a square or non-square composition solely dependent upon the format of the video you’re using? If I recall, HDV is 1440×1080 correct? Therefore if a majority of your video was shot in HDV then you would work in a non-square comp and if your video was all graphics within AE then you would use a square pixel 1920×1080 comp? Am I correct in assuming why you would use a square vs non-square comp?

Hey thanks for the advice. My producer is working on getting the more detailed specs, aspect ratio, and resolution. I was hoping to try and get ahead and think through it. I’m glad to hear that it’s better to just setup the comp from the beginning instead of having to nest.
