Ok, so per your suggestion – I transcoded the video clip to a new video file, keeping the same DNx36 HD format. Now, when I do autosync with the new clip, it works!

So I suppose for some reason, I will have to re-transcode all of these clips? These DNx36 HD offline files were created using Red Cine X, and will (upon picture lock), be linked back to the original red files. Would putting these files through another round of transcoding inside the Avid cause any problems to arise when it comes time to online?

When I try to transcode it, I get the following error:

“Range specified for Dup is outside range of component”

Yes, they do. I was able to add Locators in both audio and video clips.

Now I’m worried this goes beyond AutoSync. Upon restarting Avid and deleting the troublesome subclips, I get the same error when opening my master Timeline. Then when I close MC, I get another error: “Alert: “Bus error” in thread “MainThread”, at address 0x0″

And when I try to “Create Report”, I get yet a different error: “Alert: “Segmentation Fault” in thread “MainThread”, at address 0x0″, and then Avid crashes.

I recovered an old version of the Timeline through the Attic, so I’m OK, but thought that this was still strange.

  • Talking to a post house that is helping us, this was going to be my plan.

Using the existing NTSC 29.97 ProTools session for the 2 hour cut, have the audio mixer create the stems needed for the 1 hour PAL HDCAM/Digibeta masters – stereo mix on 1 & 2, undipped mix minus narration on 3 &4, then print that to a NTSC HDCAM, then get that converted to the PAL masters. Then, re-digitize the PAL master, and then have the mixer resync to that and create the 8 stems needed for stereo/5.1 audio delivery. Does that sound like a good plan? My main goals are to make sure audio deliverables match the tape masters, and trying to give the mixer the least double work as possible.

Ah Jim, I just understood what you are saying. If my catalogs ever get lost, this software will allow me to pull that information from the tape itself, which I can then use to restore the tape. Is that correct?

    Thank you so much!

Maybe I’m not understanding completely, but how is this any different from just backing up the BRU PE environment onto a tape, cd, or external drive?

I’m wondering if there is a way to simplify where all I need to restore the data on my tape is the tape itself and the deck – without any catelog files that themselves have to be backup up separately.

    Boris,

Would love to hear how you achieved this. I just recently discovered that I have to have the catalog files to restore from a tape…would love to know anyway around this. I hate the idea of all my LTOs being useless without these catalog files.
