What do you mean it doesn’t fit? It has a 3.5mm TRS connector, same as your camera. Please explain. -
No you can’t find a cable like these at Radio Shack. A pad cable has a tiny resistor soldered into it that provides the Attenuation of the signal.

The Zoom H4n can be connected to a DSLR. However the Line Level signal needs to be attenuated with a pad cable. -25db is just about the right amount to get the job done. Several companies make these cables. There is one available that also has a Headphone Monitoring jack.

From the tone and info of your post it sounds like you know a bit about audio production. However, you don’t have all your facts straight in this case. The Canon 5D does have manual audio controls; it has since a firmware update in March 2010. You can disable the AGC and in manual mode you can adjust the levels. If you turn the levels all the way down and use a good preamp you can record good quality audio to the 5d.
And there are many pros who do just that.
