The camera could shoot 1080i. But the look of 1080i is super sharp like a sports event – in contrast to the “film-like” nature of 24p – so creatively it just doesn’t work.

ok. so let’s say i shoot 720p/24 (i have since figured out my 1080 vs 720’s from my previous posts). I pretty much have to shoot 720/24p as it is for a commercial, needs to have the “24p film look” and can’t look like super sharp digibeta as I would get with 1080i.

so let’s say i have the 720p footage – it is for broadcast and not for film – so by no means do i need to finish at 24 fps. since i can only edit it at 1080i on media 100, can’t i load/cross convert the 720p footage to 1080i – (whereupon the 24p gets convereted to 29.97)? and then output it from there? though whether you output at 1080i or 720p at that point i have no idea 🙂

i wonder if that made sense? i really appreciate the info and advice!

So if I understood all of this right – I think there is a lot more for me to understand but this is a start 🙂

To use the media 100 Hde shoot 1080i/60 — Media 100 will not handle 720p – 24p as of yet? What sort of look does 1080i/60 have? Is it “film” like or very sharp video?

Does the varicam actually shoot 1080i/60?

Couple of other questions. After shooting in 1080i (thanks for the tip) – with DVCPRO HD it is best to load at 8-bit, correct? Also the deck has both firewire out as well as serial digital component outputs. Is there advantage of loading one way versus the other way?

Also I have read when using FInal Cut you have to be careful with fps/24p. Do I need to worry about anything like that with HDe? Planning on shooting 24p.
