  • Thanks very much for this info!

    Very good to know….

  • I found that anything over the 2.4TB mark will be thrown to another tape.

I struggled with an archive last week with the same issue.
Archive total size was 2,594,067,199,868, which is around 2.3593TB.

I originally had it sitting just on 2.5TB, but it was throwing the extra to another tape.
I “trimmed” the archive and move a 45GB file to another archive and it all fitted to the one tape.

This is the reason for me asking about using compression in a new post…

  • I have also apparently been added to the Windows Beta mailing list back in Jan, but still have not had any feedback….

Being an avid Windows user and abuser myself, I also cannot wait to get going with this….
I am tired of the issues I have been getting with all the new versions of Apple OS and the apps…
Seams like Apple is a very broken system at the moment….

    Thanks for the reply Tim.

So just running the older installer will “overwrite” the current version or do I need to fully remove the current version first?

I am copying my reply from another post as I think it is relevant to this post too…

I am having a similar issue with mine.
Since upgrading to the latest version (3.1.29 build 442) with fully updated High Sierra, I have had Bru PE crash at various points during the verify… Can be on any of the 3 tapes being used…
I have run the same archive (no running # 5!) and get a crash every time!

I have since reinstall my machine back to Sierra (using a fresh HDD with a clean install) and reinstalled version 3.1.29 build 442.
I am now on my second run on Sierra now as the first one still crashed on the verify… A few minutes into thew first tape… So frustrating!

I have now changed the buffer from 2048 to 512. I doubt this will make any difference, but will see in the morning.

Does anybody know how to either fully remove BRU PE or can I just reinstall an older version over the current one to “downgrade”?

Archives were very stable with both BRU_PE_Rel_3.1.23.359 and BRU_PE_Rel_3.1.28.433.

    Hmmmm, the plot thickens!

Perhaps it does have something to do with one of the last 2 updates they did????

Yea, apparently it’s a common issue.
Change the Admin password and you’re pretty much screwed!

I needed to do backups urgently, so ended up reinstalling my machine with Sierra OS and reinstalled BRU PE with new logins and it’s all happy again…

So I’m not sure if BRU will find a solution to this, but just be VERY careful if you change your admin password!

    Good question….
Before the experts answer, maybe they can also tell us the correct way to store them.
    Upright or flat?

Just heard many different stories about the effects on tapes if they stored vertically or upright.

    Hi,

I know this was a while back, but if it were me, I would just redo the whole archive over.

I have had to do this a few times in the past because BRU PE just froze up, or for some or other reason.

Just safer to redo the archive and make sure the verify is completed 100%!

    Good luck.
