I just came across the same issue.

If you have not solved this yet, try: CMD-OPT-Up

This will lift your selected clip from the timeline (or Right-Click and select “Lift from Primary Storyline”). Then you can move, trim, or otherwise edit this clip without affecting the rest of your timeline.
