November 7, 2015 at 4:51 pm in reply to: editing converted ProRes 422 footage on FCP7I normally convert everything to match the HDV cameras as 1440×1080; but this time I used 1920×1080. This is actually FCP 5.0.4 I found the ‘Prompt for settings on New Sequence’ and opened a new sequence, and after changing the sequence settings to match the video clips it is now working.
I am thinking the drag the clip into a new sequence method wasn’t available in FCP5, because that didn’t happen when I tried.

November 13, 2014 at 12:42 am in reply to: Hard Drive DTE Recorder options for Canon XH A1 Video Camera: What would you use?I use the DN-60 with an XHA1s, we have 2 of the cameras. The DN-60 is used on solo shoots, and works great. When filming performances we run a firewire line into out MBP s and record as QT movies. This works great also; but still requires mixing in real time on 2 camera shoots.
I am seriously considering getting a second DN-60; but honestly, the only thing tape is still used for the second camera is weddings. We do 4/5 a year.
I have started using my Canon 6D for most promo work, so the DN-60 isn’t used quite as much. Its a great concept, and I think a perfect alternative to using tape on these HDV camera that still have beautiful optics!

October 23, 2014 at 2:09 am in reply to: Hard Drive DTE Recorder for XH A1 Video Camera: What are the best current options available?I have 2 XHA1s HDV cams, we have a DN-60; but also a modified FS-4HD firestore DTE recorder, with internal Sandisk 32GB CF Card, and external power supply.
The only complaint I have about the DN-60 is that battery capacity sometime doesn’t last as long as card capacity when filming weddings. I mostly just use the DTE without tape; and it has been flawless. The FS-4HD is bulkier, so it isn’t used as much.
If anyone has recommendations for an alternative power supply for the DN-60, pass it along!

Hi Lucky Phil, what are you currently using with your 6D? I am just starting out on one, and trying to figure out the best way to go. I really like the idea of running a line into the camera vs. separate recordings. Wondering how the Tascam DR-40 has worked out for you.

December 8, 2012 at 10:42 pm in reply to: MultiCam issue FCP 7 – can’t get timeline correct to editAppreciate it Shane,
That was probably my problem… after converting original files to proRes… they wouldn’t fit on my internal 7200rpm drive, and got placed on an external drive connected with only usb 2.0. I have a SATA to express card; but my new Macbook Pro (2.3GHz Core intel i7) doesn’t have express card.
I need to look at a thunderbolt solution in the long run. These performances are seasonal, so not a huge biggy at least before spring.
Back to editing the old fashion way…. pre multicam till I can figure out a reasonable solution!
Thank you for responding!
Merry Christmas everyone!

December 8, 2012 at 7:00 pm in reply to: MultiCam issue FCP 7 – can’t get timeline correct to editHere’s a few screen grabs better illustrating my problem
When I double the multicam track, the Viewer window loads as normal.

As soon as I click on the timeline to start editing, it goes back to one track view in Viewer.

Here’s my Viewer Window settings:

May 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm in reply to: Apply cuts from 1 timeline…. to another timeline?Unfortunately…. because it is a multiclip, the angle stays the same using that method…. I will try nesting the captured tape clips into a clip that matches up in length and see if I can sync up again, and finally if all else fails, just edit it again.

May 10, 2012 at 2:35 am in reply to: Apply cuts from 1 timeline…. to another timeline?Thank you Roy; can you offer any additional detail?
This is what I have now, I added the orig. timeline with cuts to V2…. and V1 is new footage captured from tapes. HOW do you “make every cut one frame”? and after doing that…. do a search “for all” what term?
