I’ve had good results using both white cards and gray cards. I don’t think it matters for setting white balance as long as it’s a neutral shade of gray (R=G=B).

Alex,
I’d recommend that you first get clear on what you expect to get from a 4K camera. From your post it’s not clear to me why a 4K camera would be right for this project.

Don’t get me wrong. I have a Panasonic GH4 and I love it. I almost always shoot in 4K, mostly for the ability to crop in post. For the type of work I do that’s a huge advantage.

But be clear on your expectations and don’t forget that editing 4K footage requires a fairly capable PC.

I have the Panasonic DMW-MS2 microphone and it’s worked out well for me–until now. I bought a juicedLink Riggy Micro 202 preamp and the DMW-MS2 doesn’t work with it. I’m pretty sure the DMW-MS2 won’t work with any preamp because it’s designed to be plugged directly into the GH4 (and certain other Panasonic cameras). When I plug the DMW-MS2 into the juicedLink preamp I get nothing out. (Two other non-Panasonic mikes work fine with the preamp.)
