Sounds like your FW drive is just too slow. Are you using DVC Pro HD? It should work but maybe not depending on your FW drive. I know ProRes 422 will not work for me on a laptop and external FW. You would need at least a 7200 rpm drive and esata would be much better. I don’t think it is the laptop that is the problem. DVC Pro is only 100 meg and FW 400 give you … well. 400.

Are you sending the video with the audio? You don’t mention video but that would be about right depending on the quality of the video. You can turn off the video send if you are sending to a multitrack project. There is a box to deselect the video.

My file is 75 gig. It has always taken a long time. ?? Maybe I am doing something wrong. Looking at the inspector there are no options on.
And that is only one file, I have one other 75 gig file to complete the project. 2 DVD’s.David Perry

By the way, I am compressing 1 1/2 hrs. of video. It is taking 7 hours. Is this normal? Is there a faster way? I have a Mac Pro quad 2.66. Is there a significant difference with a newer machine or another program?

THis problem does not have anything to do with Fonts. It is in the action of the characters on stage. Every movement has this combing effect.

I shot in 720p60 and I did compress in Progressive. I run three Panasonic HVX-200 cameras analog out to a Panasonic AV-HS300 switcher and SDI into the AJA IO HD. This was a 3 hour opera in 2 acts that I shot. The picture is great. It’s the compression where the problem occurs.

I haven’t read the whole thread recently but the “bypass” is going out of the line output of the MAC directly to the audio device you are listening to it on. You are not going out of the FW to the IO HD and then to your speakers.
Change your System Settings in FCP to Audio – Line Output instead of the AJA output for audio.
Then change your MAC System Prefs and choose the Sound icon and change the output to Line Output. Then connect a mini stereo cable to your MAC line output and run it to your speakers.Certainly not an ideal situation but I think AJA has a handle on the problem and will fix it by NAB. (I might be wrong).

Rather amusing post but you neglect to tell Mike the reason it will not work is that the input on the IO HD is not a mic pre. It is only a line input.

The issue as I understand it is not the 400 FW port. You can use that to connect to the IO HD. In fact AJA sometimes recommends using the 400 FW. I had issues recording HQ to an esata raid. I dont know why but it just was not fast enough with 2 drives.
But the 400 FW is fine.

Helllo,
I have been capturing 4 cameras through a HD switcher for 2 hour shows. If you are in HQ make sure you have a big raid. I had a capture problem with only a 2 drive raid in HQ
