Malcom what sort of battery life do you get with the tascam and microphone madness lav?

Yes I always format before each use, and I use supported cards only.There is no chance of them pushing buttons as there is a hold switch. I have contacted zoom and they have said it may be because I’m using rechargeable batteries. They said normal alkaline will be more reliable. I find that hard to believe but I will give it a go, despite the expense.

the iPhone thing actually sounds quite cool as I’m sure an iphone would be reiable, but not cost effective to buy 5 of these!

The guys that use tascam.. was the switch to tascam for reliability issues? Do you think theyre more reliable? I’m considering getting one to start with and maybe using it on the groom only.

Maybe I’ll contact tascam and ask about using rechargeable batteries..

thanks Peter, it certainly wouldnt be worth that much to me but I find it hard to believe there isn’t a commercially available piece of software to fix what is a relatively commmon (in that its happened to me twice) problem with a very common recorder!

sorry gents I should have explained where it came from. It was a recording using a Zoom H1 and when I pushed stop the spinning saving graphic that usually spins for a couple of seconds just never stopped spinning. I’ve binned the memory card and replaced it but this is the second time in a couple of years that this has happened. The previous file wasn’t that important but this one is more important (not crucial but I’d certainly love to get it restored)

I’ll give that software a go. If anyone has any luck please let me know! It was 24bit 48khz from memory.

Oh and putting it back in the zoom doesn’t work unfortunately..

thanks walter, choosing that photo JPEG compressor reduced the file size massively. Still seems good quality so I think that’ll do nicely for me!

sorry I should have been clearer. I cannot tell the difference to my ear but I’m not sure if the technical specs mean that in certain situations one might perform and sound better than the other…

thanks for the replies.. it seems madness to me that an mpeg copy of the same film requires difference licencing to a h.264!

Ok so if I understood right (and regardless of licencing info) the mpeg will be better quality (less compression artifacts) but nowhere near as efficient in terms of compression? so if I need to save space then h.264.. if space isnt an issue, mpeg..?

i know this is a year old but hoping people will see this.. I really can’t get over the audio limitations of multi cam editing in CS5. I do a lot of on the fly audio edits as I’m editing, for example cutting out a section and applying an audio gain etc. Is there no way you can use the multi cam window for video but leave the multiple audio tracks showing as they were before nesting the sequence?

hi all I hope you don’t mind me coming back to this thread so late. I didn’t purchase in the end, but recent changes in my business have meant I can now opt for a 3 monitor solution so I’m after the hardware and the monitor.

Firstly the hardware..
When looking at Matrox MXO2 there seem to be quite a few different versions and a lot of people talk about the portability of them as an advantage but I simply wouldn’t benefit from this so a PCI card would be fine for me in that respect, but at what cost? I lose the SDI output by the looks of it meaning I can’t use the monitors that you guys recommended (I was somewhat surprised by the price at £1700!). My question is would it still be worth getting the PCI card version (or matrox if there’s any other advantage other than portability) and 32″ LED TV or would the quality be no better than just using a large monitor?

I initially wanted to do this to gain desktop space for editing, but the idea of seeing the film how it’ll look on a TV instead of on a PC monitor also appeals to me, but will using an LED TV instead of an SDI Input monitor put me at a huge disadvantage?
