That’s great Eric. Exactly the solution I’m looking for. Am downloading now.

    Thanks!

    Thanks James for your help.

The client (an international news channel) has requested I submit .MXF files (XDCam HD 1080i50). I upload via FTP from a small village in Guatemala, so farming out is not an option.

However, I just came across Convergent Designs FileConverter for Mac, which rewraps .mov files in a .mxf wrapper. Need to do some testing with the client, but this could be a solution, as I can simply export .mov then rewrap without transcoding, etc.

    Fingers crossed.

3rd party software needed even if I’m only exporting in a .MXF wrapper? I don’t need to import or edit .MXF, just export.

$250 to $1000 seems a lot to pay.

  • That’s really helpful Stephen. I did it, but reverted back to FCP 7, as I haven’t learned Motion yet, and am slightly pressed for time.

Perhaps I need to check out your DVD!!

Thanks again for the quick response

    Very best.

  • Thanks. I’ve done quite a bit of searching online but can’t find anything suitable. What would your search terms be?

Strangest thing happened today. Left a message for family in Connecticut on their home phone. I’m in Guatemala.

I get an email from them, from their iphone/blackberry/etc, which includes not just a .wav copy of my message, but a text transcription of my voice message as well. I’d say it’s about 85% accurate. Looks like it came from Vonage.

So how do I get my hour long interview transcribed with similar accuracy? Do I need to call them on the phone and then playback the interview?

I had no idea how advanced this stuff was … but again I’m living in a highland village in Guatemala.

Thanks Eric. I’ll give it a try.

    Thanks Eric.

Any suggestions on settings? Ideally a 2 minute .h264 file would be no more than 450-500MB.

Thanks. Please let me know if you do come across them. I tried one test on a short clip and yes LOOONNNNGGGGG render times on my laptop.

Thanks Dave. I learned not to export from FCP to Compressor awhile back. But even as a self-contained movie Compressor can do all sorts of funky things, in my experience.

I’d love to what conversion settings you’d use to get the .H264 file, to end up with a file the same size as HDV but better quality.
