Public Beta sounds like a good sign to me. I am waiting to purchase much needed Mac Hardware, AKA Mac Pro, until AVID releases the software. I’m not on the assurance plan. Might have to accept the March rumor.

PROBLEM SOLVED! A friend who had the same problem said that I had to reinstall Quicktime 7 (I happen to have PRO, but I don’t know if that matters.) He said that the AVID update actually installs something that Quicktime needs to overwrite. So I downloaded Quicktime from scratch. Now I can capture firewire footage again! Hope this post helps someone else.
