Agree that the source code is a pretty big deal and could lead to all sorts of mischief.
If hackers really want to mess with Adobe, another malware target is the authentication server. Imagine a virus that reverts CC software to trial mode and marks it expired. Totally possible and totally the kind of thing hackers do for lulz.
Not saying it will happen, but just as much a concern as compromised passwords and credit card info. Source code gives hackers everything they need to use Adobe’s DRM as a weapon.

Actually, by default it’s not mapped to the keyboard. Go into Keyboard Shortcuts and search for Linked Selection. There’s also a button on the sequence window just to the right of the magnet button for snapping. I mapped it to the Q key because Q was free. But the real goal was to map the keystroke to the center button on my mouse so I could easily toggle linking on and off like I used to do with FCP7. Worked perfectly. Really hope Adobe starts selling software again.

Premiere CC has this button (Linked Selection – Q). Lots of other improvements too, like pressing D to select the clip under the playhead. Excellent. Patching is better but still room for improvement, for example, copy/paste on the timeline still doesn’t respect track source when pasting, i.e. if I have V1 and V2 enabled and I copy from V2, when I paste it should paste back into V2, not V1 by default.
I liked the 30-day demo a lot. But I find Adobe’s new business model completely unacceptable. Back to CS6 until Adobe management comes to their senses. I can wait.

One of ValueAct’s executives now sits on the Adobe board. I have no doubt Adobe’s push and strategy to maximize recurring revenue is driven by typical Wall Street thinking and this new partnership. We all know how well the Wall Street geniuses did for everyone in 2008…

I like the Premiere changes quite a bit, but Symphony is also swell for me. I’m in for a year, and I hope this all gets worked out in the meantime. If it turns into an island, then I will only rent it when I need it, which probably won’t be often because CS 6 fills most of my non-NLE needs. So, fingers crossed that it all works out.”
Chris, how much better is the new Premiere in your opinion? As good as it looks from the demos?

Agreed. I totally understand and support your choice. Now I just want Adobe to really listen and offer a choice for me and the millions of other customers rental doesn’t work for.
It’s in everyone’s best interest that Adobe be a healthy business in the future.

The problem is that’s no longer true. Now they make stuff, rent it to us and when we stop paying rent, it goes poof, locking us out of our own work.
That’s a pretty big deal they need to fix. Even then, it sounds like they’re prepared to write off 6 million existing customers.
This is a company that badly needs new leadership if they hope to survive.
Other than that, I agree with you about the opportunities. 🙂
