Thanks for the tip about cropping- I’ll try that 🙂
Let’s say I add a plugin like color-correction to a video event.
Now I’m in it dragging sliders around, and I push the hue a little too far. Now I’ve let go of the mouse, and I just want to undo that movement (without manually dragging back- as it won’t be exactly the same)

Thanks Nick,
This is very sound advice (pun intended) for now and the future.
Btw I was taking a look just now at VirtualKaty. There’s a free 48 hour window and it might ignore the 999 limitation. That could be another option….

Thanks both of you, and we’ll do this for the future.
However, is there a solution in our current situation where the original OMF and EDL’s were from the one long sequence?

Wow… shocking!
So I guess we’ll wait then… last question (for now)- is output from compressor better at least, even if it runs slower?
-
That sounds frightening! What did it break?! (I haven’t used Color- but my goal is to make it as pleasant as possible for the colorist when they come in).
The film is a PAL SD project, involving mainly DV and still photos (with keyframed movement/scaling). The ability to preserve the sequence as-is (and not have to deal with each shot separately) seems like a gigantic feature to me, but maybe I’m missing something…?
Another thing to consider is that we may want to do some NTSC -> PAL conversions in compressor before bringing those shots into final cut, and also generating (from the finished master) MPEG-2 & H.264 for DVD and Internet distribution… does the new compressor work much faster/better for this (as opposed to not only the old compressor, but say procoder on windows)?
Those NTSC shots look OK for the most part on the PAL timeline though… guess final cut is doing some sort of decent native conversion? 🙂

Thanks.
Mainly this:
“Seamless round-tripping” – https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/whats-new.html#color -
You’ve got to sniff the link to the actual video from youtube.
I use Charles for this – https://www.charlesproxy.com/ but other tools might work.
Once you have the actual link, then my metadata tool does work (well, it shows you the data in the youtube videos…) 🙂

Those are all great suggestions, thank you.
Maybe it would help to clarify that we need to get a tutorial for someone who is already trained and experienced in Avid. Does that help narrow down the list? 🙂

Is there an NLE that does support it naively so I won’t need to render?
I definitely don’t want to go through a deinterlacing step. By using a custom “25P” project in Premiere, it looks fine- though I need to render. That is my best-bet right now as far as I figure.
Thanks.

What’s the point in doing that if there is no temporal difference between the fields to begin with? Bringing the footage into a “Progressive” timeline (i.e. custom settings based on DV-PAL, but progressive instead of bottom field first) looks absolutely fine- just Premiere wants to render it.
The whole reason I shot with 25P was not only for quality, but to avoid this step.
I understand about using motion-adaptive deinterlacing. I’ve used Magic Bullet Frames, Fieldskit, and VirtualDub’s Smooth Deinterlacer plugin in the past.
