Nice, I watched this earlier today. Didn’t quite get the explanation for the use of both backslash and forwardslash. It means there is a space? What’s the reason?

Yeah, I guess it was just your phrasing that made me think you meant that using a reference movie in compressor also tied up FCP (which I was SURE was not true). I see now that you were referring to “send to”.
It is because of all those people having problems with Reference movies that I made sure to treat them as “throw away” files, always exported with “REF” added to the end of the name so it can easily be found in a smart folder for deleting. Great for quickly exporting a long video, so long as you don’t expect to keep the REF around for future use.

Use a faster connection to your external drives, FW800 and a 7200 RPM drive minimum. Even if it was working on your old system, USB 2 really isn’t a good choice for editing.

That reminds me, I should mention that in my good experiences with REF’s, I always closed FCP while Compressor is working. But I didn’t think that using the REF in Compressor tied up FCP at all, I closed it for Matrox driver issues. Using an exported Reference movie in another App does not tie up FCP, does it?

I thought that output to video monitors was kind of the main highlight of the T-Tap, whether it be a consumer tv, a pro broadcast monitor or both at the same time. Feeding video monitors happens to be the first use-case mentioned on the T-Tap webpage and in their video. IIRC Walter Biscardi has them feeding FSI monitors on all his new iMacs. Obviously you understand why there is a need for true video monitoring, I’m just saying that monitoring isn’t any less of an intended purpose than anything else. Personally, I just want my video monitor (I use Matrox MXO2 LE/Mini for I/O) and can’t stand having my viewer on the second display but I might throw the event browser over there during multicam edits.

Yeah good stuff! I usually watch every MacBreak Studio episode within minutes of it being posted. I fiendishly watched and read everything I could find when 10.0.6 came out, because I had to wait to finish projects before updating but wanted “audio components” for my multicam clips in progress sooo bad.

Exactly, if stepping into a CC from the Event Browser had that effect on each instance on a timeline, the “Final Cut Pro> Provide FCP Feedback” menu would be getting another a visit from me. 😉

What is problematic? Constantly putting the drives in and taking them out of a Mac Pro? If so, you could get a FW800 or eSATA hard drive dock to easily mount/unmount your bare drives. If I’m on target with what’s going on, you really need to be sure to have backups of your files.
I just came across rackspace (I do not have any experience with their services) when I googled Akamai. There is a $0.15/GB per month plan for plain data storage in the cloud or $0.70 for cloud storage… wait for it… on SSDs– https://www.rackspace.com/cloud/public/blockstorage/pricing/
But how many GB do you plan on storing? Is this kind of thing really a feasible option for a video editor? Seems like it would be a lot of upload/downloading and nonsense but maybe I don’t understand your intentions. What’s holding you back from getting some decent local storage?

This is good. Nobody wants their projects moving around unintentionally. It would be nice to have a “fit to contents” button on a per instance basis, just a simple right click selection to make the compound clip fit the length of its contents.

I came across the same issue a while ago (before 10.0.6) and found myself extending compound clips with gap clips then trimming afterward as well. I thought it would be nice to have a “fit to contents” on/off toggle for Compound clips
Don, are you saying that if you open a compound clip in its own timeline from the event browser, add some clips increasing the length, then all instances of that compound clip on their respective timelines will automatically extend to fit the new clips? Which would increase the length of any project that compound clip is in? If so, that’s a good thing to be aware of.
