    I called applecare hoping that they will sincethe computer was recently purchased. They thinkthat the install disk is damagedand is sending a new one. Will let you know if that was the issue. Thanks for all of your help

    There are 7 disks including the install and content disks and are all original apple. I did verify that it is final cut studio 3. I think I am going to bring it into the apple store and see if some of the techs there could determine the issue. Not sure they will look at it being it is an older program.

    I am hoping I did not get ripped off as well. I attempted to install one module at a time and received the same error. My son is going into his freshman year of college and will be using it for educational purposes only. He had checked with the college and they are using FCP7 and that is one reason he wanted it. He also had used it extensively in his high school tv classes.
    Are there any tricks to install programs that do not want to install? Like a force install? or starting the computer is a “safe” mode. perhaps there is a software installed that is not allowing FCS3 to be installed?

    It is the full academic version. Not sure that has anything to do with it. My son said fcp7 is better control than fcpx. I am not a video guy so do not know. Could it be that the person we purchased it from never uninstalled it or would that have nothing to do with it?
