OTOH so did any garden variety demagogue and, not needing to stir the pot to a boiling frenzy, I won’t bother to name those who had an even higher degree of stage presence than Mr. Jobs. Hint: they were CEOs of countries.

You realize just how good Steve Jobs was when you watch others try to captivate an audience…
Good is in the eye of the beholder. Some looked at Mr. Jobs on stage and saw equal parts of demagogary, egomania, snake oil, and visionary. And probably more of the first three than the last. For those folks the message was obscured by the messenger. I guess it depended on whether or not one drank his cool-aid.

I would describe my experience with a pre-relesse version of PrPro 6.0 on a huge feature doc project with all kinds of material: EX, 5k timelapse still sequences, many varieties of AVCHD, AVC Intra, 2 kinds of consumer camcorder, all different frame rates and sizes, and every one of them contained in a 2 hour HD timeline, as completely stable…as stable as any NLE I’ve ever experienced.

Yeah, insularity damns us to ignorance and we become easy marks to be impressed. I keep wowing at the Smoke Wow thread. As I said over there, “I haven’t seen so much froth since my last trip to Starbucks.” Smoke 2013 may be the greatest thing since Mazola Oil, but we won’t really know its limits for another 6-8 months. And the long time Smoke guys are not exactly wow-ing. I guess they may know something that the wow-ers don’t.

My Mac friends don’t have stability issues with 5.5.
If there’s hardware at play that’s problematic it’s usually caused by third party drivers. AJA and Matrox seem to have had problems with their drivers for 5.5 on the Mac. Thtat’s now changing with Premiere Pro 6.0’s Transmit architecture where display monitoring is handled through SDK calls. Also, on the Mac, not having a CUDA card affects performance and may affect stability as well. I really don’t know for sure. But 6.0’s OpenCL support should make the performance issues on the Mac go away.

1) instability on larger projects (20+ hours of footage), especially if you load up on cpu heavy codecs like DSLRs, etc”Hey Daniel, I regularly work on large projects – 200 plus hours including lots of DSLR and 5k still sequences. Even in CS5.5 the software is extremely stable.
