I agree. It’s very cool that the Logic filters like Channel EQ, etc. are available within the program.

I just made a quickie music video last week to upload to Youtube and the audio that originally came off of a VHS tape had a couple of horrible pops in it. I took it down to the frame level (I just recently found out about the Sample Level option or would have done that) and added a few volume keyframes and made the pops virtually un-noticeable.

I tried a quick test of the “Record Audio” last night with my built-in MBP mic. The Inspector shows it as a stereo 48k aif file. It didn’t show the bit rate so I went to the file via the Finder and opened it in QT7 and it shows up as 16-bit. It doesn’t appear that there is a Preference setting any where to choose 16 or 24-bit. Have you found one somewhere? In QT7, it defaults to 44.1 and 24-bit which I believe was set in the Audio MIDI Setup. It appears that FCPX doesn’t get the file settings from the same place. Does FCPX only accept 16-bit?

Also, if you don’t already have anything in your Project, FCPX creates a Gap clip of the same length in the Primary Storyline and then adds the audio as a connected clip. Nothing too extraordinary, just kind of interesting.

Okay, that’s just silly that after a year I just found out about that. I’m not sure how I missed it with all the posts and tutorials I’ve read and seen, but I did (I even checked all the menus last night and still missed it).

I don’t have a ton of need for voice overs, but now that I know it’s there, I might be cool to add some VO to some family video that could use some explanation. I figured if I ever needed to do VO for any reason, I would just do it via Logic. Cool, one less hoop to jump through.

Huh?? Maybe I’m missing something obvious that I’ve not encountered up to this point, but are you saying you can record audio live into FCPX? By the context of the post, I take you mean you are recording a voice over directly into the program.

Me too with the clip height. I’ve ultimately found it easier though to select the clip, go to the Inspector/Audio tab, and then type in the number there or use the UP/DOWN arrows.

I had previously heard of the SolarAir project, it’s a good one. A perfect use of the technology.

Very impressive use of photos. After awhile I forgot I was watching a collection of photos tell a story vs. straight video. The edits and keyframing felt more like video cuts than what I typically think of for photos which would be the Ken Burns effect.

I also really liked the effect near the end where the people are holding the sun in their fingers. Simple, but clever and edited nicely.

I’ve not had a need for Aperture and don’t own it, but maybe I’ll take a look this summer. I appreciate your explanation of the integration.

The left-right panning on the bike parts at :25 and about 1:00 was very smooth. If you don’t mind saying, was that done with camera and a slider or with stills and keyframing? Either way, the effect was very nice.
