That’s very helpful, thanks for going the extra mile with the video. I just finished 3 edits from last week, it starts over again on Wednesday, so I’ll give it a go then. Your workaround is definitely much faster then mine. I did file a bug report on it with Apple, hopefully others will also. I may also file a complaint that not only can you not turn off the audio portion of the transition in FCPX, but you can’t even turn it off in Motion. I will file another complaint about that also.

One question though on your workaround. Did you check to see that after closing the Project and program that it still worked? I had something that seem to fix it a few weeks ago, but the problem came back after re-launching the program. If you still have this test project, do you mind checking?

Also, what version of FCPX are you running?

Based on the response to this topic, I’m must be the only one that finds this to be a problem. But, I spent another hour today messing with it and my workaround works and nothing else.

Expanding audio and adding the transition only to the video doesn’t work consistently since it moves the audio. I’m back to pulling out each end of the clip for 2-3 seconds, taking the Range Tool, selecting the area and then dropping the volume down to 0 dB, putting the clip end back, doing the other clip in the same way and then adding the transition right on top of the cut (without expanding the audio).

On the bright side, I am getting much faster at the process. As I said in another thread, I sure wish you could turn off the audio cross-fade portion of the transition in the Inspector. I will send feedback to Apple.

I don’t think it’s been mentioned in this thread, and it may be obvious, but for zoom in and out fine control, I use the COMMAND – and COMMAND +. Then, Shift Z when I want to zoom all the way out. I’ll have to try the Option Z.

If I understand correctly, I would need to first completely detach the audio from the video and I’m not sure I want to go there for this issue.

I have three 40 minute tutorial edits I have to do every week, so I do get lots of chances to experiment and optimize the workflow. I did an edit last night and only needed to expand the audio and place the “Flip” transition one time solely on the video and it didn’t cause a problem. As I said, it’s just when there are two in row that a problem is caused with the audio moving.

With the cutting in of a gap clip, I now have two viable workarounds for this issue. It should get me by until I figure out something else or Apple builds in a way to turn off the audio portion of transitions.

I got it figured out. I’ll need to build a little muscle memory to make it fast and smooth, but if I first use the trackpad to push the vertical timeline scroll up to the top (or bottom) and then swipe at a 45 degree angle, it stays in place.

You may have just inadvertently given a good idea for a workaround for a problem I’m having here-

Maybe what I can do is put a 15-30 frame gap clip between my two clips and add a standard dissolve on both sides of the gap clip and this way the audio can’t possibly be an issue. I’ll give it a try later today.

I believe it was you that suggested double-clicking to expand the audio before, but if you try to do it to both ends of the same clip, it moves the other end’s audio. I’m guessing it’s a bug. I do this particular edit all the time when I need to delete 10-60 seconds of talking head chatter. I sure wish I could un-check the audio portion of the transition. Other then that, I noted my workaround in the other post.

What do you mean by that? I think I would like that too if I understand your meaning. I’m having a heck of a time getting transitions to work without including the audio cross-fade. Here’s my last post on it-

I’d like to see an option in the Inspector for each transition that allows you to turn off the default audio cross-fade with a little check box.
