[Neil Goodman] “I’m worried Apple wont be able to keep up with the rest of the pack.”
I’ve spent the day with the new version of Premiere, they fixed part of the issue with unlinked multicam audio disappearing when it is ‘flattened’ without linking to some other multicam clip. That’s progress.
As far as keeping up, how are they behind? Adobe’s best new features they added aren’t new to me.
The open captions are nice I guess. They are creeping in to having shared workflow, that’s my #1 hope that if FCP X gets that, it will finally begin to push the needle.

It does the same thing AFAIK that clipwrap does by wrapping the original media in a .MOV QT container. (Something I had to do with CW in the FCP 7> days.

[Petter Napstad] “sometimes after rendering the timeline, parts of the image or the sound is totally misplaced.”
In the render? Or do the items on the timeline shift? I haven’t seen either of those things happen in years.
Try trashing your render files, if that doesn’t work try trashing your preferences. (hold down cmd-opt when starting FCP X)

I think the OP was also saying they started shooting with the card again after the format. They may be able to get some of it back though.

[Michael Gissing] “with recent improvements in Resolve’s tracking and stabilizing I haven’t done this for a while.”
Have you tried the Lock&Load trial from Coremelt? It’s a lot better than the built in FCP X stabilizer. I haven’t needed to go to AE for a while now.

[Andrew Kimery] “make it fast enough that the ‘consumer’ machine with the single mobile GPU gets left in the dust, etc.,”
On many tasks and general editing this is true but for large outputs and Red footage transcoding the maxed out Mac Pro is still much faster in FCP X.

[Andrew Kimery] “Gracias, you are a wealth of information Mr. Austin.”
This is some other food for thought, interesting how some tests do almost as well over TBolt2 as they do in a PCI slot in a cgMP.

[Andrew Kimery] “I know the GPUs are replaceable, but are they intended to be user upgradeable the same way the RAM and SSD are?”
They are easy to remove and Apple hasn’t they aren’t. They have said the memory and the SSD are.
[Andrew Kimery] “Maybe when the new, nMP come out Apple will offer the new GPUs will be backwards compatible with the 2013 nMP and Apple will offer them as stand alone purchase for those that want to upgrade, but that just seems very unlike Apple these days.”
They did release a 7950 for the cgMP not long ago and the upgrade kits were always few and far between. There haven’t been next gen GPU updates until a couple months ago so I’m hoping there is a way to upgrade soon.

[Andrew Kimery] “you shouldn’t use the App Store for Resolve because it doesn’t get regular updates like the version you can download directly from BM.”
There were some sandboxing related limitations that may still be there.

[Andrew Kimery] “If Apple made a user upgradeable machine I would be fine with longer durations between upgrades because I wouldn’t be solely dependent on Apple to when it came to improvements. “
This is the grey area, the GPUs, RAM, and SSD are considered ‘user serviceable’ but as of yet there are no 3rd party GPUs or Apple upgrades available.
I’m hoping they offer upgrade kits as they have in the past for the cgMPâ„¢. That will say a lot if that happens or not.
