Thank you for your response. I took my consolidating knowledge from Avid’s Media Composer as that application does indeed create new clips that are much more like Premiere’s “Render and Replace” feature.

I would delete the “original” ProRezLT media at some point because they were derived from the camera original files. Those camera originals are safely backed up in a couple of places and shall remain. This project is rather large with 6 shows totaling just about 9 hours of content. The source ProRezLT files are 5.5TB. Consolidating doesnt shrink the source files down much at all which is frustrating.

    Thanks again for your explanation.

Joe, interesting point. In pondering your perspective it occurred to me that if the Mac Pro is (can be configured to be) twice the price of the iMac. In that regard with the iMac’s value lasting half the duration of a Mac Pro, it’s a wash. One could buy another iMac in about two years and go again. Thoughts?

The Mac Pro Model Z0PK has been called the “Garbage Can” by other editors I work with purely because of the way it looks. I’m looking to the group here to give me some direction as to whether I should pursue an edit system on an iMac or a Mac Pro. The iMac is more elegant in certain respects and seems plenty powerful-and less expensive. Yet I dont want to be short sighted in making the right decision. Thanks.

July 7, 2014 at 9:15 pm in reply to: how to import MTS in premiere cs6?

Im brand new to (my fourth software program) Premiere. I have a small project shot with a Canon camera. Richard, I know you rightfully stated copying over the camera files and respective folders over to a media drive. But in a test, I pulled only the handful of .MTS files that I needed for this project and then in Premiere 6 used the Media Browser to find them. Premiere was handily able to pull them up and import them. Was this a bad thing? Can I actually edit in AVCHD? This is a no-no in Final Cut Pro 7. And this process feels odd- copying the camera media over to my media drive then connecting to it. Tell me I’m doing it right?
