[Alex Mann] ”
– that the CS6 orthograpic camera wasn’t working with Particular and Form. This is great, however I can’t seem to find anything else out about this orthographic camera by searching about or, more to the point, how to implement it. Maybe I can’t see further than my nose! Anyone know anything more?”They are referring to the Orthographic Views. Top, Front, Left & Right. These are not renderable views/cameras.

November 1, 2012 at 6:23 pm in reply to: most efficient way to change photoshop layer names for AEYou can change the names of the imported footage items in After Effects. Just select the layer you want to rename in the project panel, press return and enter a new name. This should update the source name throughout your project.
The layer names will stay the same in any imported comps but you can delete those layer names out in order to revert to the new source names, or click the “Layer Name” column in the comp to switch to “Source Name.”

[joel corwin] “Thanks guys!
I tried the hypernurb, but I couldn’t keep it from distorting the image. Any suggestions? I’ll also try the knife tool, thanks!”HyperNURBs essentially subdivides and smooths surfaces. It smooths the surface in much the same way as a B-Spline*.
This means that when two edges are very close to one another the surface will remain sharp(er) than if two edges are very distant from one another.
You may be able to use the Knife or Bevel tool in combination with a HyperNURBS generator to define what areas you’d like smoothed and which you’d like to keep defined (add edges where you want definition). However, this can lead to topology problems if it’s done as an after thought.
*NURBS = Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline
I’ve attached some images to show how a B-Spline and a HyperNURBS behave with small changes to the detail of the underlying structure.

Well, if you upload a sample file for folks to take a look at I’m sure the problem can be diagnosed 🙂

Probably not the issue but I’ll add that mask blend modes are only available on closed masks.

[ben wolfinsohn] “sorry, this is the first slider and expression i’ve ever made, where do i paste that exactly?
thanks!”That depends. If you just want to take the slider value and round it then your entire expression (applied to the slider property) might look like this:
Math.round(value); You could use floor() or ceil() alternatively.

[Dave LaRonde] “Double-check your comps for 2D layers mixed in among 3D layers. They really mess things up.”
If any of your 3D layers are compositions with collapse transformations enabled and effects applied that also messes up 3D render order.
Layer Styles applied (or imported from Photoshop) on 3D layers will have the same effect.
Other gotchas to check would be whether your ‘Shy’ comp switch is on and there are shy 2D layers hiding in the composition.
If you’d like more detailed guidance share a project file or screen shot of your timeline and comp viewer.

[Jamie Bradshaw] “Math.floor(value);
Math.floor rounds down whatever number is inside the bracket.”
There’s also:
Math.round()Rounds to the nearest number, Math.round(0.5) returns 1, Math.round(0.4) returns 0 for example
Math.ceil()Returns next highest whole number, Math.ceil(0.0001) returns 1 for example
And to complete the picture:
Math.floor()Returns next lowest whole number, Math.floor(1.9) returns 1 for example

In addition to the other tips already provided I’ll mention that you have 2 great options for adjusting both kinds of interpolation to get exactly what you want.
Dave already mentioned the Graph Editor, which is fantastic for adjusting Temporal Interpolation. You can use this to adjust how quickly animating properties accelerate/decelerate.
If you’re looking to adjust the Spatial Interpolation then I recommend using the Pen tool to adjust motion paths directly in the Comp Viewer. Every keyframe in the comp viewer appears slightly larger than the intermediate frames. You can directly adjust the bezier handles of keyframes with the Pen tool (just like mask vertices) you can even add or remove keyframes (just like mask vertices).

Have you taken a look at the Alpha setting in the Render Settings?
The only thing that looks slightly odd in your picture is that the texture isn’t being rendered to the plane in the viewer, but I assume that’s just a wonky viewer setting.
Feel free to upload the scene file here if you’d like someone to take a look at it. Just be sure to reduce the animated texture to 1 frame (rather than an animation) for upload.
