I respect you trying to revive the debate Tim, this forum was a lot of fun for a long time. But FCPX is long dead – not just rotten or even a skeleton but reborn into a field of peaceful flowers swaying lazily in the breeze.
(To head off the usual suspects: Not that it’s not a fairly functional -and certainly unique- piece of software for those that like it. Which may, every couple of years, include at least the rumour of a TV show or feature. But really, for those of us who get told what we can cut on, the debate is sadly long over.)

I’m a doc editor in London and yes its all Avid though many still have FCP7 at home. If you want to attract someone good then -as has been said- get them in before you start the slog of rebuilding the cut. Get in touch with the agencies (Satusfaction, Independent post, Bluebery, Soho Editors..) and try to attract an editor away from paying broadcast work – and bear in mind they may not watch a feature length film on spec so make sure they see the gold early!

Well I’ve been sat on Avid this whole time. I’d love to move forward into the sexy future, but along with the good ideas there always seems to be some demented corporate bullshit that makes it toxic. And I never go full retard.

I know how you feel. I was even contemplating getting the dell 30″ that can rotate and using it in portrait mode. The horizontal would be a tad smaller but so much vertical space..
