Turning off the indicators alleviated the problem. while still a bit slower than CS5, its mostly normal, thanks!

by “per letter” I meant a text layer on the stage, tied to an expression.

  • installed the 11.2 update. slight performance improvement but still much slower than cs5.5

  • Your definition of constant is right, it just feels like it does the entire timeline worth of processing per letter change, so it feels like it never stops :-p.

The expressions I’m using are basic value raitio swaps (if this object is X big, make this object Y big) on 3 objects using the color and slider FX controls.

I didn’t even think to check before, but just did and i’m using 11.0.1.12 apparently 11.0.2 addresses some expression bugs, let me try that first and report back.

  • Thanks for the response.

Since using CS6 I’ve noticed the green “ram precache” bar fills up whenever it can. I believe this is the new Global Performance Cache feature. Problem seems to be when it does this, it runs expressions constantly, leading to sluggish performance.

that’s just my theory, I could be totally wrong.

The underlying problem is that Projects that have expressions that ran fine in CS5 and 5.5 are now sluggish and unresponsive in CS6. I’m using an octo-core Xeon mac pro so i don’t think it is the computer. And the bar is staying green, so its not writing to a disk cache.

    thanks again for the help

Hahaha! Thanks Dave, that made me laugh. If i was in the position to say that, I totally would, I’ll check with my VP ;).

Though if anyone out there knows a way to lock out the settings I’d still like to know 🙂
