Could someone please explain what is happening in the last part of that expression: angle= …?

I understand the angle is going to be based on the calculations in the ( ). I don’t understand how the three “calculations” c+d,c+r,c-r relate/translate to the 90,-90

Rather than me confuse matters by trying to explain what I think I understand, could someone dumb it down for me please?

That is useful! Does that sourceText have a length that AE can use in an expression? i.e. take sourceText’s length and offset thisLayer by that value?
