ok.. so using any compression at all, even at the higher end of the spectrum, means i’m always going to have this problem?
in theory i could recapture this one clip but i’d be stuck then with being unable to play it back on the system that’s in place (this is for a gallery installation, it’s playing from mini macs so i don’t reckon they’ll handle the uncompressed 10-bit too smartly). though i could try.

Repaired Disk Permissions in Disk Utility (presume this is what you meant?), restarted, tried again, same problem.

No other FW device attached. All settings correct. System settings checked. Didn’t do a clean install of FCP but have only recently installed 5 anyway. In fact this is the first time I’ve tried to use it. It does exactly the same thing with 4.
