  • Interesting idea. This seems to work. You need to convert the VO track to keyframes. Fiddle with the four parameters until you get something you like. The squelch parameter assumes your bed is stereo – just change it to a single number if it’s mono.

    silenceLevel = 5; // volume level of VO where squelch is removed
    silenceTime = 1.0; // length of silence before bed starts to ramp up
    rampTime = 0.5; // time to ramp up bed
    squelch = [12, 12]; //amount to squelch bed (db)

    VO = thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”); //VO level

    if (silenceLevel > VO.value){
    t = time;
    while (t > 0 && t > time – (silenceTime + rampTime)){
    t -= thisComp.frameDuration;
    if (VO.valueAtTime(t) >silenceLevel) break;
    }
    if (time – t > silenceTime){
    linear(time – t, silenceTime, silenceTime + rampTime, value – squelch, value);
    }else{
    value – squelch;
    }
    }else{
    value – squelch;
    }

    Do you have 3D layers occupying the same space? For example, if your dark brown stuff is at the same z depth as the light brown, the it can ambiguous as to which layer is closer to the camera. In that case you’d just need to move the light brown a small distance away.

    I don’t think that’s really what you want. If you really used a value of infinity there, you wouldn’t see any decrease in value as you moved away from the camera.

    What you’re probably really after is an exponential decrease based on the distance from the camera.

    Give this a try (for position):

    chkBx = effect(“Checkbox Control”)(“Checkbox”);

    n = 0;
    if (chkBx.numKeys > 0){
    n = chkBx.nearestKey(time).index;
    if (chkBx.key(n).time > time){
    n–;
    }
    }

    t = 0;
    curTime = time;

    if (n > 0){
    for (i = n; i > 0; i–){
    if (chkBx.key(i).value > 0){
    t += (curTime – chkBx.key(i).time);
    }
    curTime = chkBx.key(i).time;
    }
    if ((curTime > 0) && (chkBx.key(1).value > 0)) t += curTime;
    }else{
    if (chkBx.value > 0) t = time;
    }

    sp=2;
    amp=150;
    gravity = 50;
    x = Math.sin(t*sp)*amp;
    y = Math.sin(t*1.5)*50;
    value + [x,y];

    What’s the code for your expression?

  • An interesting little trig problem. I’ll give it some thought if nobody else chimes in.

    You mean the x axis? I think it would be like this:

    factor = .5;
    delta = toWorld(anchorPoint) – thisComp.activeCamera.toWorld([0,0,0]);
    radiansToDegrees(Math.atan2(-delta[1],delta[2]))*factor + value*(factor – 1)

    I’m not sure how they’ll interact if you use x and y at the same time though.

    Something like this might do it:

    factor = 25;
    minX = 0;
    maxX = 2000;
    minY= 480;
    maxY = 520;
    minZ= 0;
    maxZ = 500;
    temp = gaussRandom([minX,minY,minZ],[maxX,maxY,maxZ])
    x = Math.round(temp[0]/factor)*factor;
    y = Math.round(temp[1]/factor)*factor;
    z = Math.round(temp[2]/factor)*factor;
    [x,y,z]

    Me too. 🙂

    This should do it:

    factor = .5;
    delta = toWorld(anchorPoint) – thisComp.activeCamera.toWorld([0,0,0]);
    radiansToDegrees(Math.atan2(delta[0],delta[2]))*factor + value*(factor – 1)

    Adjust factor between 0 and 1 to get less or more follow.
