This is the one I have been thinking of getting https://www.vfgadgets.com/LCDmountPro.htm

Looks good but a bit pricey? Anyone have a link to a better deal?

To set it to 1:1, you just go into the “image” menu and there it is, the image size control.

Yes, it will give you 1:1 with 720P, it looks like about a 17″ image on the 24″ monitor. Still looks good.

No stretching or scaling with the analog input unless you set it that way but at 1:1, it gives you whatever size you are inputting. You should seee how ridiculous NTSC/PAL looks at this setting, it’s tiny!

Yes, small amount of letterboxing with the 1080 input.

The Dell is not accurate, at least with the analog inputs (my HDLink has not arrived yet), but for shooting, it is accurate enough to frame and focus. There is nothing else in the $800.00 price range that is nearly as good.

    Hi:

The analog component inputs are really the only choice.

I bought the Dell 2405 for this purpose. The picture looks great and this is probably the cheapest solution to see 1:1 pixels in HD.

Also beware that playing back footage from the HVX-200 OR viewing the footage live seems to result in the macroblock issue that everyone is in a huff about. Looking at the same footage later, when played back from an NLE system shows no macroblocks.

Could be tough to explain to a client looking at a monitor on a shoot that those dancing black blocks of pixels aren’t really in the signal. As far as we can tell, they are a result of a DSP issue when the camera is used to playback the signal or when the signal is passed through the camera to the monitor when viewing footage live.

    Hi all:

I did some testing yesterday and personally, I think that the macroblock issue that you are talking about stems from a playback issue with the camera’s analog outs. I too saw the macroblocks using the camera for playback into a Dell 2405. However, when I viewed the same footage played back from an AVID Symphony through a JVC 19″ HD CRT and a Pioneer Elite 55″ plasma via HD-SDI to the JVC and via analog HD outs to the Pioneer, I saw no macroblocks. This leads me to believe that many, if not all of the users who are seeing this issue might be viewing playback directly from the camera or migh be monitoring live through the camera on a shoot?

Try viewing your footage from you NLE using a high quality HD monitor via a digital connection and tell us what you see.

    Aja Sales:

Next question, can you tell me when B&H will receive Kona 3s and Kona 3 breakout boxes? Is there another dealer nearby (Burbank, Ca.) who has them in stock right now?

    Hi Oliver:

I would rather upgrade the dual 2.3 to a quad to use the Kona 3. I need the upconversion function and the multi-channel audio options that the Kona 3 offers.

The minimum for the LHe is a 2GHz system with a 2.5GHz recommended so a 2.3GHz would probably workk okay but that means I would have to have all NTSC material upconverted at a dub house or would have to buy a separate box. I think that’s what so appealing about the Kona 3, it basically does everything.

    Hi Bob:

No, not yet, I am sure I will hear back from them tomorrow, I e-mailed them yesterday. But based upon the owners manual, only owners of dual 2.5s and 2.7s and Quads can use the Kona 3. I am hoping that perhaps the manual was written before they could test a dual core 2.3, as you may or may not know, the dual core 2.3 equals or outperforms the pre dual-core 2.5 as far as benchmark testing so I have a sliver of hope left.

Will report back as soon as Aja tech supprt does to me.

    Best,
