Unless you have experience with it, laying back to HDCAM is fraught with ways to screw it up, you need tri-level sync, you must be outputting legal levels. This is a case where your friend should just output a QT or take his FCP project to a post house that does this. It will be cheaper, easier and less frustrating. If it is for broadcast delivery anyway, chances are that QC is required. If the show needs QC, it is easier to QC it before it is output to tape. Once again, almost all post houses that can do QC, can lay it off to tape.

Yes, that must be it, I just copy over the files and manually open them to make sure that they play.

Hmm…not sure why your setup is so slow compared to mine. I have not yet tried a 64Gb P2 card but my PB can definitely do a 16Gb in less than 8 minutes and a 32GB is about 15 minutes.
I am not even using a 7200 RPM drive and am using FW400, not even 800.
1. How full is the drive?
2. Which OS version and how much RAM are in your PB?I have never done anything special to the PB, I don’t even use it anymore, it is now my wife’s computer and I only use it when I shoot since my MBP and the Duel stopped playing nice when I updated the MBP to Leopard. PB is, of course, still running Tiger.

If you read the other popular sites, this rumor is everywhere, it was first posted on the PVC website by Bruce Johnson, or at least that was where I first saw it since I didn’t see the Tweet. Kind of hard to avoid it if you read any other industry FCP sites.

What did you upgrade Steve? Your OS, QT, P2 Drivers or version of SHotPut or some combination of the above? I gave up on it a year ago when I bought it but perhaps it will now cooperate better? Which versions of the above software are you running?

I was an early adopter of ShotPut Pro. Unfortunately it was causing my MBP Pro to crash. Imagine told me that the only way to make it work was to take out 2GB of RAM, which I could not do as I am a using FCP and Motion quite a bit and need the 4GB of RAM.
So Motion has been a bust for me, it has never worked and it has always crashed my MBP. I think it has something to do with the OS, amount of RAM and the P2 Driver version I have. I have been meaning to sit down and troubleshoot it again, but have not done so yet.

Gaah! My bad, I did not catch that. I think 1 GB per second would be quite fast enough. Ahh, perhaps someday with instantaneous holographic RAM?

Doesn’t work for me. My old PB G4 downloads P2 cards are a tiny bit faster than 2GB per minute, I can do a 16GB P2 card in a little under 8 minutes. I never erase the cards until I have the material on two drives so if I figure 16 minutes to download a 16GB and about another 10 minutes to clone that card drive to drive, that is too long.
May work fine for others though. Just depends on what sort of shooting situations you find yourself in. I tend to shoot a lot of long interviews back to back though for up to 6-10 hours in a shooting day so this is a big deal for me.

Are you sure it will be 1GB per second? Where do you get that spec from? I don’t anyone knows yet about how Panasonic is implementing their dual USB beyond the obvious power delivery.
If that turns out to be true, then it rules it out for me, too slow. Perhaps the QIO will be better way to go.
