So I called Final Cut Support as soon as they were open. They had me disconnect all my drives and then try to install it again. It had no problem after that. I have no idea how having a bunch of firewire drives hooked up could make any difference, but it did.

That was it. I have been editing on Vegas since ver.4, I should have figured that out. I usually shoot HD, but I was helping my son with a DV project.
Vista is so strange, It takes me quite a while to figure out where Microsoft moved all the handles and levers that I’m used to. It’s a little like moving a blind mans furniture around.
Anyway whenever something is not working quite right I automatically figure that I have some Vista configuration problem.
